I am currently using sulphate free shampoos more often than sulphate shampoos to see if they have an effect on my hair. WOW Anti-Dandruff Shampoo is among the first ones I tried.
Description by WOW: Premium, anti-dandruff shampoo formulated to control dandruff in hair and scalp. Guaranteed to be free of sulphates & parabens. Infused with 100% pure cedar wood & tea tree essential oils. Neutralizes dandruff-causing fungus. Gently clears up the itchy, scaly & flaky scalp; restoring health, shine & bounce to the hair.
Price: Around 400 INR. You can buy it here (India) or here (US) -#CommissionsEarned
Ingredient Analysis:
- Water
- Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate – Gentle surfactant
- Decyl glucoside – Gentle surfactant
- Cocamidopropyl betaine – Gentle surfactant
- Cocodiethanolamide aka Cocamide DEA – Harsh foaming agent
Ingredients after the first 5 to 8 ingredients are in negligible amounts and can be ignored if you are not trying to avoid any ingredient in particular – Read the Ingredients List, Not the Product Claims
Like mentioned, Cocamide DEA is a harsh and drying agent and is within the 1st 5 ingredients meaning it is higher in concentration. Also because there are no oils at the top of the list, the harshness is not reduced too much, though the gentler surfactants on tops could help. Formulation is important; it is not enough that a product is sulphate free.
The tea tree oil is towards the end of the list, and of course you can only use it diluted. So that maybe justified and it may help with the dandruff. They have mentioned cedar wood oil in the front label but I can’t find it in the ingredients. Strange.
CG Friendly: Yes/Maybe
Performance:
+ Milder than many sulphate free shampoos
+ May help mild dandruff issues
– Not the mildest shampoo I have tried. It is a bit drying. Check the ingredients analysis above for more details.
– Will not help severe dandruff issues
In short: WOW Anti-Dandruff Shampoo is not the mildest sulfate free shampoo available on the market. But if diluted enough with water, it is a good option for those looking at budget shampoos.

Hi Anjana,
Do you have any thoughts on Vaadi Herbal products? It seems to be a organic budget product and has some options on hair products as well.

This shampoo made me just give up on antidandruff shampoos… I prefer using fermented rice water to shampoo now.

Hi Anjana. Really like your blog. Wish I had found you sooner! So my hair is quite grey and I not intend to colour it. It’s long as well. My hairdresser recommended nashi which is good but a bit expensive for regular me for me. What would you recommend?

Yes coz its all herbal 😁
It doesn’t contain any mineral oils or any other things other than the ones mentioned. So that is why I asked if it is okay to be continued. This is the only oil that has actually helped in my hair growth 😃

A very nice blog on the shampoo. Have you come across any anti dandruff shampoo which is mild enough not to dry the hair? Pls suggest.

Hi Anjana, are wow shampoos and conditioners safe to use? Because it says “key ingredients” even though it looks more like an entire list of ingredients…
Thanks in advance 🙂

That’s true Asana, it indeed does look like the full list and thus I’ve listed it on the blog. I generally don’t review products which have only key ingredients 🙂
