I was looking for other ways to sleep with my curly hair in spite of loving my silk pillowcase. That’s when I found this method and I now think it’s better than sleeping with just a silk pillowcase on.
I think this method of sleeping preserves my hair more than with just a silk pillow case for these reasons:
- Your hair cannot move here and there when you toss and turn in your sleep thus preventing tangles
- It is not exposed to the environment (which can be drying)
- There is less relative friction between the fabric and the hair when it is in a bonnet
You can either put your hair as it is into the bonnet or you can pineapple before putting it in.
I still keep my silk pillowcase on, in case the bonnet slips off during my sleep. Even if the bonnet stays on at night, sleeping on a silk pillowcase can work more to retain your curls’ moisture.
I have the satin pillowcase by Evolve. It is around 900 INR/5$. You can buy it here(India), or here(USA). It is very large and easily fits my long hair. It is not tight on the head. In fact, it’s so loose that I need to secure it with clips onto my hair. But I really prefer doing that to having a tight elastic on my head.
We may look funny, but oh the things we do for the love of our curls!

I watched your video for the washing and applying product to dripping we hair– then you used a diffuser. Was the diffuser on cold air? Also, you mentioned you do the wash and style routine then go to bed with wet hair– how? Do you pineapple, wrap in a t-shirt? Do you wake up with damp hair? What are your steps for wash/style/then sleeping with wet hair?

Hi Violet, it was on warm. When I go to bed with wet hair, I just lay it on the pillow like shown here https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/4-ways-to-sleep-with-curly-hair/
During summers, my hair is dry int he morning. During winters/humid days, it’s damp in the morning

Hey Anjana, is sleeping on 100% polyester satin good? I read that it’s not breathable and can cause scalp issues?

Hi Rukhsana, I always prefer silk over satin, especially if it is the pillowcover(and not just a bonnet over your head) – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/why-sleeping-on-silk-is-good-for-curly-hair/

Hello! 😊
I have 2c/3a indian long curly hair. I have a question.
Would it be okay if i tie my hair in a bun when i go to bed at night or during the day since i am working from home these days?!

Hi Kiran, yes you can put it in a bun as long as curl definition is not required the next day. My hair is a bun most of the time nowadays too 🙂
