I have been singing the benefits of using a silk pillowcase and bonnet for preserving curls overnight for a long time now. When I first started using these products, I had a difficult time sourcing them from the USA. I am really happy to see a lot of Indian brands coming up with such high quality products.

Hair Love India is one such brand founded by Princa Rathi and they sent me 3 products to try –  Silk Pillow Cover, Silk Bonnet and Mommy Silk Scrunchie. They are all made of Silk Mark Certified 22 Momme Mulberry Silk in Charmeuse Weave.

When to use a Silk Pillow Cover Vs. When to use a Silk bonnet

Silk pillow covers prevent frizz and tangling. They may not help too much with curl definition as hair is free to move. I especially like silk pillows when my hair is not 100% dry when going to bed so that there is enough air circulation for it to dry well.

Silk bonnets, in addition to preventing frizz and tangling, also help retain curl definition as they encase the hair. I lean more towards bonnets when my hair is 100% dry as using a bonnet on damp/wet hair can cause mold to grow.

I got the 20″ * 30″ pillowcover in black with frills. The material is luxuriously silky soft. My curls didn’t frizz up overnight and most of my gel cast was undisturbed. It has a concealed zip enclosure for a very sleek & neat looking pillow.

Hair Love India Silk Bonnet

I got the Jumbo sized bonnet. This bonnet has a tie option so you can secure it as tight or loose as you like which is not the case with elastic bonnets. My gel cast stayed perfectly intact overnight. Curls didn’t frizz up one bit or lose definition. I’ve recently found more uses with the bonnet. I love to use the bonnet to protect my curls while cooking and brushing 😀

Hair Love India Silk Mommy Scrunchie

Getting my hair knotted up in regular scrunchies, I’ve stuck to plastic jaw clips most of the time. But I do love using scrunchies for high pony tails. This silk scrunchie is a no-ouchie soft scrunchie that holds ponies well, yet is super gentle on the hair. The Mommy size is perfect for medium-thick hair.
