Schwarzkopf Taft Gel: Ever since I learnt about how marvelous gels are for curly hair, Iโve been experimenting with a lot of gels. Schwarzkopf (pronounced as shwatz-co(p)f; I think :P) has a wide array of gels and I randomly chose this one because I wanted a gel with a high hold + one that is non-sticky. โMarathonโ, โ48Hโ, โLong Lasting Holdโ โ my curls should stay good for 2 days!
Description by Schwarzkopf: The Taft Marathon ensures that your styling lasts all day – whatever the weather. Enriched with high endurance polymers. No residue, non-sticky.
Price: 350 INR for 150 ml. You can buy it here.
Ingredient Analysis:
Water, PVP, Acrylates/Hydroxyesters Acrylates Copolymer, Acrylates/Steareth-20 Methacrylate Crosspolymer – Polymers, Aminomethyl Propanol – emulsifier, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor oil โ water soluble wax of castor oil, Glycerin, Panthenol – Humectants, Parfum, Niacinamide – Vitamin, Benzotriazolyl Dodecyl p-Cresol – Stabiliser, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methylpropional – Fragrances, Phenoxyethanol, DMDM Hydantoin, Benzoic acid, Sodium Benzoate โ Preservatives, Limonene, Colour.
There are great polymers in the gel for hold. It is also Sulfate, Silicone, Paraffin, Mineral Oil, and Alcohol free.
CG Friendly: Yes
Texture: Non sticky, thick and viscous
Smell: Being designed for guys, I hate the smell โ too masculine though not strong.
Packaging: Sturdy sleek plastic tube with a flip cap
Performance:
How to apply gel – Curly hair gels : Everything you need to know
+ Forms a strong gel cast that protects and holds curls while it is drying
+ Prevents frizz
+ Schwarzkopf have gels ranging from holds 1 to 8 and this one is 6 so itโs pretty strong! You can chose whatever hold suits your need.
+ Scrunches out very well after drying and leaves no residues or flakes
– Being high hold, you can go a little overboard with the gel causing stiff curls that cannot be scrunched out. Start with a small quantity and increase if needed.
– No botanical ingredients.
In short: If you can excuse the masculine smell, Schwarzkopf Taft Marathon Looks 48H Long Lasting Hold 6 Power Gel is a good gel to provide hold to your curls for at least 20-30 hours.

I wonder why they can’t come up with good smelling (don’t mean floral or fruity) hair gels! Thanks for the review!

I am super excited to use it, i wonder how sometimes we are going nuts over unavailability of products and we have such a great products at our arm distance.
Thanks for review.
I am from pakistan and product availbility is almost same as india, like we dont have deva curl and shae moisture and getting it online is too heavy on pocket.

Hi Anjana. I live in a super humid area. I have been using the Cantu Curl Activator Cream sparingly and a lot of Bblunt Gel Oh! Natural Hold. I recently realised that both have high glycerin content and it is making my low porosity 2B/2C/3A(?!) coarse hair super frizzy. I lack proper curl definition too.
Someone told me about the Schwarzkopf Taft Titan Look Power Hair Styling Gel Ultimate Hold 6 for humid weather. Have you tried this gel? Is it CG friendly?
Also should I ditch the Cantu cream for the monsoons? I do not know what else to use for curl activation.

Hey can you post the ingredients list for the gel? Leave some of your conditioner in instead of Cantu.

Hey i have a similar problem. Leave ins or gels with humectants (panthenol, glycerin, propylene glycol) creates frizz in high dew point/humidity in areas like mine (mumbai). Ill have to do a major overhaul coz i have been using humectants rich products leading to terrible frizz. Can you help me out with humectant free leave in and gel (budget friendly)? Thanks a ton!

I’m completely new to this routine and teh curly hair stuffs and products. All these years I just comb my hair which turns to frizz and my hair is not compatible with any styling.i prefer to just pony tail my hair as I find hard to try different styles.
Should I use the gel mentioned above after cowashing while it’s still wet or after drying and leave it as such for the day

Hey Anjana..
Thanks for the review..
Also how do you know if you are going overboard with your products, especially gel like this ? Cause I am using this and the first time I used very little so there was no hold and now I think I have used more cause the cast is strong.. I know it’s about trial and error but may be you can advice something that comes handy!

“Being high hold, you can go a little overboard with the gel causing stiff curls that cannot be scrunched out. ”
How much of this gel did you use as compared to the amount you use of other gels?
I tried another Taft gel (the super glue one) and I found that i couldn’t use more than a coin sized amount (compared to the lemon sized amount I normally use).
