Along with Enliven conditioner, this is my favourite silicon free conditioner that I use for co washing, that is cheap and easily available in India.
Description by Revlon: Body building conditioner with panthenol penetrates the hair shaft and builds clean body and shine. Available in 2 variants – Regular (blue one) and Extra body (green one)
Price: 220 INR for 592 ml (that’s a lot for such a cheap price!). You can but it here or here.
Ingredient Analysis:
Regular (blue)
Aqua, Stearalkonium Chloride – surfactant, antistatic agent, Cetyl alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol – Fatty alcohols (smoothens the hair cuticle), Propylene Glycol – humectant, PEG 150 Stearate, Hydroxy Ethyl Cellulose – Emulsifier, thickening agent, Steareth 20 – Surfactant, emulsifier, Retinyl Palmitate – Vitamin A, Hydrolyzed Silk – protein, Panthenol – humectant, moisturizer, Tocopheryl Acetate – Vitamin E, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, Methyl Chloro Isothiazolinone, Methyl Isothiazolinone, Citric Acid, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Polysorbate 60 – Preservatives.
The ingredients list is great with no tricky ingredients. It is a protein conditioner so if your hair is protein sensitive, you may need to stay away from Revlon Flex Body Building Protein Conditioners.
Extra Body (green)
It has all the above ingredients + Isostearyl ethylimidazolinium ethosulfate which is a quaternary ammonium salt (conditioning agent). I am not sure how a conditioning agent makes the conditioner provide more body. I was expecting a protein related ingredient to be extra in the green one.
CG Friendly: Yes
Texture: The conditioner is a lightweight, runny, milky yellow product with moderate slip (being a silicone free conditioner).
Smell: Both smell the same. It’s a unique fresh smell that stays on for hours after washing.
Packaging: It comes in a tall yellow sturdy plastic bottle with a flip cap.
Performance:
Here’s how I apply conditioners – How to wash & condition curly hair and here is a post with my full curly hair care routine – My curly hair routine .
+ The flex conditioners do a good job as a co washing cleanser. My scalp feels clean after using this. And for the price and quantity, it really is a good conditioner to use as a co washing cleanser.
+ It’s got no harsh ingredients – no sulfates, silicones or drying alcohols.
+ Provides body to hair – my hair loves proteins (in moderation)
– It tends to dry the hair a little.
– Detangling with this is a little difficult. There’s not enough slip.
In short: Revlon Flex Body Building Protein Conditioner is a good, cheap silicone free conditioner in India if you are ok with proteins in your hair products.

How do we know if our hair is protein sensitive or not? My hair is the definition of dry and frizziness 🙂 I have used almost all the products and it is still the same 😀

How does it works as leave in?

It’s not very moisturising – but may be good if your hair is not too thick or coarse

It’s really good for co-washing thick wavy hair but will not really work great for curly hair.
Tried and tested on very thick, heavy and wavy hair.

You mean it will not work as a cowash for curly hair?

I use it as co wash for my hair but it may not be a great co wash for voluminous and dense hair with curls. I think it won’t give that much required slip and detangling.

Cowashing is for cleaning the scalp only. Not for detangling hair. That’s why as I mentioned in the review, it is good as a cowash not as a regular conditioner.

Hi!
Though this product technically makes for a good co-wash, I don’t enjoy using it at all. As soon as I smooth it all over my hair and the scalp, it disappears to almost nothingness. It’s almost as if I didn’t just apply a palmful of product to my hair. It’s like I have only water in my hair. I feel like I have nothing to work it. Nothing to massage my scalp with and nothing to gently run through the body of my hair.
Is it ok if I just wash my hair with a regular silicone conditioner and follow that up with the same or a richer conditioner for detangling?

Oh, that’s so strange. Because I absolutely love to cowash with this. I guess you could do that as long as you’re using a sulphate shampoo every now and then

I live in Bangladesh and it’s the only conditioner I’m accessible to. I’m thinking to use it, my hair is 2c, low porosity thick and coarse can I use it as leave in and try to mix with water for a refresh?
