Shreya - curly hair india

Shreya: I am back after quite a long break! I became a mother to a beautiful baby girl in November 2022 and took all the rest I needed throughout pregnancy and postpartum.

Let me restart posting content with a Readers’ Diary from all the pending submissions. Sorry for the delay to the others who’ve submitted too – I will publish them all in due time 🙂

Readers’ Diary includes some of my beautiful readers who’ve had a curly hair transformation after following the Curly Hair Routine. A whole section dedicated to my readers.

“While I always knew I had curly hair, I had no clue how to take care of it. Having a mother with long silky straight hair didn’t help! Little did I know my hair is sensitive to coconut oil, which I slathered on every few days in the hopes of getting softer hair. Of course, I made all the other curly no-nos as well – combing, brushing, tight updo’s, silicones etc.

Thankfully, I got on the right path after I found this blog. I got an early start in analysing ingredients in products and which ones work best for me.

My hair type – Fine, high density. 2C-3A.

My curly hair routine –

  1. Always pre-poo – I massage either olive oil, castor oil, or Arata’s Hempocado oil and leave it in for a few hours. I also use a DC mask every now and then.
  2. Wash – Either wash with Fix My Curls Everyday Moisturizing shampoo or clarify with whatever gentle sulphate shampoo I have lying around.
  3. ConditionGiovanni Smooth as Silk conditionersquish to condish and rinse out completely after combing through to remove fallen hair.
  4. StyleFix my curls curl quenching hair butter  or Davines Curl Serum (not CG but is amazing as a one&done) – applied with praying hands and then squished in when dripping wet  & then plop while I finish showering
  5. Gel – Giovanni LA Hold styling gel (Holy Grail) / Taft Ultra Looks Marathon gel mixed with a little water and applied with praying hands once out of the shower and out of the plop.
  6. Diffuse – On medium heat till 50% dry, then on cool till 80% dry and then air dry. Net plopping gives me great definition but increases drying time.
  7. SOTC – with Disguise cosmetics rainbow glow oil. It’s a super light oil and is also great for my skin.

What doesn’t work for me –

  • Finger coiling or brush styling – ain’t nobody got time for dat.
  • Air drying – I get looser curls.
  • Upside-down styling
  • Coconut oil and shea butter
  • Layered hairstyles – lots of layers ends up looking like 2 layers – short clumps and longer waves

I keep trying out new products and routines but I find that the one outlined above is the most reliable. I faithfully follow the first lessons I learned here on the blog, on how to get the best clumps.

Hair health – I have naturally dense hair and it is fairly slow growing. The best way to keep my hair thick and healthy is to stress less and sleep well. No stylers near the roots. I also get scraggly and dry ends trimmed regularly so my hair looks fuller.”

Glad to have you back anjana! I also don’t have time for finger rolling/coiling and brush styling :'( It’s too much work! What are you using these days for a quick wash day since you have baby girl to take care of?

Thanks Nemisha 🙂 I mostly do a shampoo-conditioner wash day and put it in a messy bun while going out 😛

Hey Anjana! First of all, your hair looks absolutely gorgeous. I honestly wish I had hair that thick and healthy. I noticed that you had quite a few products from FixMyCurls and that you enjoyed using them. Have you by any chance tried these other curly hair care products . Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hey , how to treat frizz in wet hair ?

Try clarifying and make sure your styling routine is correct
