Daniela Pimentel: Readers’ Diary includes some of my beautiful readers who’ve had a curly hair transformation after following the Curly Hair Routine. A whole section dedicated to my readers.

“Greetings from Mexico!
I grew up hating my hair type because I always felt different growing up among girls with straight hair. Besides, a big part of the society and the media tells us that curly hair is not pretty and only represents straight hair as synonymous with beauty (I mean, check out Anne Hathaway’s makeover in the movie “The Princess Diaries”. That movie always made me feel bad about my fluffy hair!).

I straightened my hair every day for almost 10 years before I came across the curly hair community on Instagram. Following curly hair influencers and reading blogs and testimonials (like Curls and Beauty Readers Diaries!) helped me understand that curly hair is not ugly, it only requires certain types of products, routines and most importantly: love and patience! I often change my hair routine to explore different styling products and methods.

This is my current curly hair routine:

  1. In the shower, I use Shea Moisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo on the roots.
  2. Then I use Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Conditioner or Maui Moisture Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Curl Conditioner. In this step I detangle my hair. with a wide tooth comb.
  3. Before rinsing, I apply a little more conditioner and scrunch my hair. To remove the product I also scrunch it out.
  4. For styling, I use Cantu’s Coconut Cream and Bounce Curl Lightweight Gel Cream. I section my hair to apply it and lately I have been finger coiling some parts for better definition.
  5. I air dry my hair and when it is 90% dry, I separate my curls with a little Ogx Coconut Oil.
If you are in transition, or are thinking of starting, I recommend you to not compare yourself to others; it is important that you give your hair (and yourself) a lot of time and patience. Recognize that there are different types of curls and that what works for others may not work for you, and vice versa. The beginning may be tough, but trust me, the results and the confidence that you’ll gain are totally worth it. Respect your own journey and you will end up loving the process!”
