Readers Diary - Aarti Gandhi

Readers’ Diary includes some of my beautiful readers who’ve had a curly hair transformation after following the Curly Hair Routine. A whole section dedicated to my readers.

So here’s a big shoutout to all my lovely readers – I would love it if you can share photos of your curly hair’s before & after, how the blog has helped you and a paragraph about your routine and products. Send them to info@curlsandbeautydiary.com

“Curly hair isn’t something that is much welcome in our society. Even as a kid, I noticed that having straight hair was considered more beautiful than having wavy/curly hair. And giving in to the social pressure, I in fact got my hair straightened in my college- which I regretted within a month’s time. Soon, came the age of Tigi products that made me realize the beauty of curly hair.

I was comfortable with this brand(although non-CG), until post-partum (2018) when my hair turned into a mess, and accidentally I stumbled upon this blog searching for hair mask- which was the point of no return.

I started using low-priced products first, Revlon conditioner and, Wella hair mask. As a career mom, I didn’t have a lot of time for hair but stayed with my principle of no-sulfate/no-silicone/no-heat. And magic started to happen!  In a couple of months, my hair started showing curls (2a-2b mix) from a wavy-mess, hair fall reduced and shine started to coming back.

It has been 2 odd years and I only give attention to my hair once a week and the rest of the days are just no-poo or low-poo or refresh. I would say the key has been “patience” and “persistence”.

Thank you, Anjana for making me love my natural self and to embrace it. Frizz or no-frizz, curls, or waves – I love my hair.

My curly hair routine on weekends:

  1. Shampoo (Enliven / Wow)
  2. Hair mask (home-made / store-bought/ conditioner + oil as Anjana suggests)
  3. Detangle with conditioner (Re’equil/ Revlon/Enliven )
  4. Leave-in: (a little bit of conditioner + Cantu Curl activator)
  5. Gel (optional/set-wet)”

Hi Anjana, would it be okay to use hair serum on a daily basis on to control frizz and dryness?

Hi Poornima, it’s all up to you 🙂 If you like it, you may do so

Would it go with the curly hair routine? Or ruin the natural texture in any way?

If your hair likes silicones, it shouldn’t be a problem

Hi Anjana! Big fan of your account – bigger fan of your hair! Was just wondering: when you “chop chopped” your hair, did your routine change? And if yes, could you tell me how? I recently chopped my long curls to short and my regular routine doesn’t seem to be working. I’ve tried reducing the amount of product and my curls just don’t seem to be clumping or forming as well as they used to. Would LOVE some advice since you’ve gone from long to short as well 🤞🏼

Yes Kyra, I started raking leave in conditioner instead of scrunching it in. And I scrunch in gel by swaying my head to both sides instead of flipping my head over. I also diffuse by swaying my head to both sides instead of flipping my head over.

Hi Anjana.. Nice post on silicones.. I am into cg method from 1 year i guess.. I have tried many shampoo and conditioners but my hair looks very very dry and dull and i am.thinking of introducing some silicone products back into my routine.. I have very dry and frizzy curly hair.. Could you please share a few shampoo and conditioners with and without silicone to manage my curls?
