Readers’ Diary includes some of my beautiful readers who’ve had a curly hair transformation after following the Curly Hair Routine. A whole section dedicated to my readers.
So here’s a big shoutout to all my lovely readers – I would love it if you can share photos of your curly hair’s before & after, how the blog has helped you and a paragraph about your routine and products. Send them to info@curlsandbeautydiary.com
“Like most Keralites I’m blessed with tight curls. Now, I’m using the word, ‘blessed’ but until a few months ago, I considered it a bane. I underwent chemical straightening 4 times in 4 years. That translated into a lot of hair loss and dwindling volume. When it was time for the 5th touch up, I decided enough was enough. Curly, frizzy hair was better than no hair, I felt. I started reading up on curly hair and that’s when I stumbled upon Anjana’s Curls and Beauty Diary. What I loved the most about this site was, it is meant for us Indians. Most other sites are American and there were a whole lot of things I couldn’t relate to therein…such as routines for the tight afro curls, or the smooth blonde waves, even the products they recommended and the weather in which they worked was different. Curls and beauty diary offered answers to most of my questions such as-
- Why is my hair curly
- Does curly hair HAVE to be frizzy
- Why DOES it get frizzy
- Why combing doesn’t make it smooth
I nodded my head as each of Anjana’s articles spoke about the common mistakes we curly haired people make (Read-skipping conditioner, using too much shampoo, combing it straight, stripping the hair of all water post-washing etc.) I made Anjana’s curly hair routine my hair bible and put it to the BIG test at a cousin’s wedding. So, here’s what I did :
- Pre-shampoo: Overnight oil champi with trusted Parachute Coconut oil before shampooing the next day
- Shampoo (3 days before wedding): Organix Agran Oil Shea butter Shampoo
- Conditioner: Organix Argan Oil Shea butter conditioner
- Post wash styling: Organix Coconut curls styling milk
- Co-wash (On the day of the wedding): Pantene Pro V Conditioner (I found the results were better than Organix conditioner)
- Post wash styling: Organix Coconut curls hair butter (I found this to be simply amazing, better than their styling milk)
I religiously followed Anjana’s patented Curly hair routine that included, drying just the scalp and not the hair too much, scrunching, applying styling products on moist/wet hair and yes…the T-shirt trick, using a tee to soak excess water off the hair after a wash instead of a towel.
On the wedding day, I met a stylist who said the curls are looking so good I shouldn’t leave them as is! So, for the first time after 11 years (I kid you not!!) dared to go ‘open hair’ with my curls got compliments for the same. I love my curls now that I know how to keep them happy and share my knowledge with any curly who would listen! So…thank you Anjana!!!! Keep writing! Keep educating us…I appreciate your research and the pain you take to share your findings with fellow curly haired girls like us!!”

I follow Curls and Beauty Diary on IG and i am thinking of starting my curly hair journey now. My hair is similar to yours and long. I also have had chemical smoothening once and i was actually thinking of getting one done now and since i am expecting my first baby any time now, i had postponed the plan. Very glad to have read this post. I am going to follow your advise and see how it works for me.. 😀

..as all said, Anjana you are a true savior. I was hating my hair for more than 25 years, done smoothening 5 years in a row, then I bumped into your blog 🙂 which is like a bible for me now. I desperately wait for my wash days to see the beauty of my curls & I keep getting compliments for my hair (which makes me fly, of course !!) & people asks tips to me (can u believe that !!). Really owe to you Anjana in all ways.
