I am currently experimenting with some easily available and cheap silicone free conditioners in India. After Enliven and Revlon Flex conditioners, Nyassa Hibiscus Conditioner is another one.
Description by Nyassa: Nyassa conditioners provide intensive nourishment to the hair post a hair wash. Two of the best known natural ingredients that helps healthy and luxuriant hair growth comes together in this nyassa hair conditioner. Scented with a soothing floral, woodsy fragrance, this is all that you need for your daily hair care regimen. Nyassa Hibiscus Conditioner contains Hibiscus extracts and Moroccan Argan oil that helps nourish damage hair. Hibiscus extract is an effective natural hair conditioner and an excellent moisturizer. It also has anti-dandruff properties. Argan oil hydrates hair and prevents roughness. It helps restore hair luster and shine and is very nourishing for hair growth.
Price: 600 INR for 250 ml. You can buy it here.
Ingredient Analysis:
Argan oil, shea butter, hibiscus extract, sweet almond oil, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol – Fatty alcohols (smoothen the hair cuticle), e- wax – Emulsifying wax (mixes oils and water), DM water – demineralized water, disodium EDTA – removes free metal ions, brassicamidopropyl dimethylamine – Conditioning agent, Panthenyl hydroxypropyl steardimonium chloride – Antistatic agent, beet root extract, hydrolyzed corn starch, vitamin E acetate, citric acid, phenoxyethanol, methylisothiasolinone – Preservatives, and fragrance
Argan oil and shea butter are my most favourite hair ingredients and so this product looked perfect for me at first sight. The ingredient list in general looks great. But was it?
CG Friendly: Yes
Texture: Nyassa Hibiscus Conditioner has a very thick, pasty, non-creamy texture
Smell: It smells very strong. I don’t like it.
Packaging: Nyassa Hibiscus Conditioner comes in a pump bottle which is very inconvenient because the product is very thick and non-creamy. I have to pump hard at least 40 times to get a decent amount of product out.
Performance:
Here’s how I apply conditioners – How to wash & condition curly hair and here is a post with my full curly hair care routine – My curly hair routine.
+ (I don’t have any positives to say about Nyassa Hibiscus Conditioner)
– It makes my hair frizzy
– I don’t see any argan oil or shea butter effects on my hair after using this conditioner
– It has got no slip and makes detangling very difficult
– It doesn’t help in curl clumping or definition
– It doesn’t provide moisture to dry hair
In short: Nyassa Hibiscus Conditioner is not a very good conditioner, especially for the price of 600 INR for such a small bottle.

The price is too much high and quantity is very less ! It gives a small heart attack when any product doesn’t work 🙁

Nice review- this is the problem with all the ‘organic’ type silicone free Indian conditioners I’ve tried- they offer almost no slip and hence make it torture to de-tangle hair in the shower- very annoying! Enliven conditioners are pretty good for de-tangling though 🙂

Hi Anjana,
I just started the CGM routine inspired by your blog posts.
I am currently using Forrest Essentials shampoo and conditioner (it claims to be SLS/Paraben and silicon free) but I just wanted to know if I need to change this product and switch to one of the CG approved products you have listed in your posts?

Ashwini, you can start the routine with the products you already use and slowly change them as you learn more about your hair or when they get empty 🙂

Thanks Anjana,
Few more questions
question no 1: I have wavy shoulder length hair (I got my hair straightened before this). Right now my hair is almost back to its original wavy form but is very dry and frizzy.
And I also go swimming..Will swimming harm my hair further..?Do I need to cowash everyday after a swim?
And question no 2: my hair looks nice the day I wash it but goes back to being oddly wavy straight on day 2, will this gradually change as I regularly follow the CGM routine..? Or do I need to wash daily from r it to look good?
Products I am using:
Forrest Essentials Shampoo
Forrest Essentials Conditioner (I cowash and leave in a bit)
Scrunch & plop using a T shirt
Ash ba Ringlets gel
Thanks,
Anjana

1) Yes swimming(if not in a natural source of water) definitely harms hair. You could add some oil/conditioner before the swim and then wash it off post the swim.
2) It will get better as hair gets healthier. But wavy hair is also a but trickier by day 2, you will find your own way out 🙂
