  • Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask Review

Update : 23 Jan, 2018 – I no longer use silicones because I figured they weigh my hair down.

Anything related to moisture in products, and I am immediately sold. We know how dry curly hair can be and why moisture is extremely important in curl products. So when I saw Moisture x 3, I was more than excited to try out Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask 🙂

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask Review (2)

Description by Neutrogena: Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask rehabilitates extra dry or over-processed hair with intense moisturization. This weekly treatment is so concentrated, just a small amount is needed for hair to become soft, lustrous and shining in minutes. Olive penetrates to the center, Meadowfoam Seed helps moisturize the middle and Sweet Almond wraps the surface.

Price: $7.49 for 177 ml. You can buy it here(India), here(US) or here (UK).

Ingredient Analysis:

Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ethylhexyl Isononanoate, Behenyl Alcohol – Fatty alcohols, Behentrimonium Chloride, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine – Soluble Positively charged surfactants, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Dimethicone, Amodimethicone – Non Soluble silicones, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Olive Fruit Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Behentrimonium Methylsulfate – Quaternary ammonium salt, Panthenol – humectant & moisturiser, Glycol Stearate – Product thickener, Ceteth 2 – prevents separation of ingredients, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Citric Acid – Preservatives, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide – Colours, Fragrance

Fatty alcohols smoothen hair cuticle. Positively charged surfactants provide slip. The quaternary ammonium salt also provides slip. Panthenol as a humectant is tricky. If the weather is very humid, it will absorb a lot of moisture from the air and cause the hair to swell, causing frizz. On the other hand if the weather is extremely dry, it will absorb moisture from your hair. No other tricky ingredients. 3 great oils.

Performance:

Here’s how I apply conditioners – How to wash & condition curly hair and here is a post with my full curly hair care routine – My curly hair routine .

+ Probably the only positive about this mask is the smell

– The slip is not that great considering it has got silicones. Detangling is not very easy.

– Looks like the 3 oils just disappeared into thin hair because after my hair dried, I couldn’t see any moisture or shine in it.

– Caused my hair to become frizzy and didn’t tame fly aways.

– My hair looked deprived of moisture, my curls weren’t defined.

In short: Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask is a miss for me. The words triple moisture really mislead consumers who are on the lookout for moisture rich hair products because this doesn’t deliver; at least not to dry curly hair.
