  • My Curly Haircut at BBlunt Bangalore(Magrath Road) with Shafad

I have had my hair cut at BBlunt Magrath Road before with Muang. It was one of my favourite cuts so I visited their branch on 18th March, 2018 (right after the shoot for the last PhotoDiary) with the hopes of getting it done from her again. But when I reached there, they told me that she no longer worked with them. So I booked an appointment with the next available Senior Stylist.

Even half an hour past the appointment time, the stylist was still working on another client (not a very professional thing to do, considering appointments are given to avoid these kind of situations!). So I (and my husband) were growing very restless and talked to them. After repeatedly asking them, they appointed another Senior Stylist, Shafad, to me. And now, I am glad that happened!!

He has super curly hair himself and so I was hoping he’d get what I wanted. During the consultation I told him the following:

  • I didn’t want a deep V or tail at the end because I wanted thickness. But neither did I want a blunt cut that gave me a box look the last time I had it.
  • I don’t want my layers to start too short, again because I wanted thickness.
  • And the usual suspects that you can read here.

After washing and conditioning with the products that I took along, we sat for the cut. He said I would have to go a little short because my current layers started way above. I was OK with that.

Following the cut, he applied the products I had taken and started finger twirling (that’s the only kind of styling most stylists in India know for curly hair!). It wasn’t behaving like expected, so he went on to take some Kerastase curl cream saying it was silicone free (when apparently it wasn’t). So I asked him not to apply it. Then he diffused for a few minutes.

Hair is still really wet! Look at his curls though 😍

It’s exactly been 2 weeks since the cut. In the main image of the post, the pics were taken on day 4, 8 and 14 respectively after the cut. And I’ve got to tell you, this has to be my shortest haircut shock recovery time. 4 days into the cut and my hair was behaving so well!! And I love the bounce, volume, shape and thickness of the haircut. I absolutely love the cut πŸ™‚

I highly recommend Shafad from BBlunt Magrath Road for a curly haircut.

Same thing happened to me too recently Anjana. I asked for Muang. I got a stylist named Nei I think. She delegated my hair wash to some junior staff there who was going to shampoo my hair a second time before I stopped her :o. Overall the haircut was okay, but the styling was rather pathetic. I noticed the same in your picture with the stylist. Looks much nicer when you style your hair yourself afterwards πŸ™‚

Yes, that’s always the case. No exception πŸ˜‚

How much is the charge?

Your blog is a life saver. When i was 9years old i had long beautiful curly hair and i went for a haircut. The β€œstylist” cut it so short and told us that he did it so that it won’t be voluminous anymore and can now be manageable. My hair hasn’t grown that long ever since and i regret it so much.

Wow such a bummer πŸ™

Hi anjana your blog is really helpful could u please mention more curly hair stylists in delhi as u did only one that’s quite far from my place

I have mentioned whatever inputs I got from readers in Delhi πŸ™‚

Hi Anjana!

First off, I love your blog. It’s great that someone figured out how to manage curly hair and is willing to share it for the benefit of other curly hair people.
I have a question: Would you recommend BBlunt over Bounce (Aurelia)? I’ve tried Aurelia at bounce but I’ve never tried BBlunt. This was a few years ago so I don’t really remember the outcome.

Secondly, I have a request. I want to colour my hair and I was searching your blog for colours/ shades that suits curly hair. Have you ever coloured your hair? If not, do you have a fair idea of what shades will look good on curly hair? I have black hair (not as dark as yours/ jet black). Also what kind of streaks look good on curly hair?

Looking forward to hearing back from you

Both experiences have been good, so it’s difficult to choose! I haven’t but have a post on the care – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/colouring-curly-hair-treat-damage/. I am not sure of the colours though – your colourist should have a better idea about that πŸ™‚

Heya, I have a question — how long are the shortest layers you have now, and how many do you have? Love the haircut and am wondering if I should get layers for myself — my hair is half way past my shoulders and bra strap length and I think it’s beginning to look a bit deflated. I don’t want the volume to be wayyy over the top though. I think your layers look just right!

Ear level(after the curl shrinkage). They are merged layers; not countable like a step cut.

Hi Anjana
Any review on bblunt HSR layout or Koramangala? Or Jawed Habib?

I haven’t been to any of those salons Monica

Ohhkk.. ☺ and I have a doubt.. even after I scrunch with a leave in der is still hair lying loose which doesn’t budge to clump. Anything to help? I use L’oreal 6 oils nourish and then Garnier sleek and shine as leave in

Is your hair dripping wet while scrunching?

Yes.. my hair is coarse and frizzy.. is it anything to do with it? Or is it with d products? Can u help me if I send a pic?

Ya could be that..sure mail me some pics

Hello my dear am Esther from Mauritius and would like to know your contact name at Bounce as I am in bad need of a curly hair cut. I will be in Bangalore from 24th to 26th of September and would have loved to go for a cut at the place you described. Please let me have the nameof the person who did your hair their phone number or email please.
Thanks a million from Mauritius

Wondering if you can explain how he cut your hair it looks amazing!!! What sort of cut it was? Layers??

Yes, layers with a U at the end πŸ™‚

I had a disastrous haircut with Shadab. Had been to Muang who was good. But this one has left my hair completely out of control. It’s been six weeks and it’s growing out worse than I thought as he has made the bottom most layer shorter than the top layers.

Oh no. So sorry to hear that Vani. It’s the first time I am hearing a bad review about him

Hi Anjana,

Are there any good hair cut saloons for men , in Bangalore you might know about. My husband has very curly hair.

Hi Betina, Shafad should be good as he has curly hair himself

Hey anjana, i have some questions
1) Before you started going for good curly hair stylists in particular, did all the other stylists before your curly girl days blow dry your hair and “set” them in a way that they looked.. straight?
2) Also, i tell the person cutting my hair that i just want a cut and don’t really want a blowdry or styling/setting at all (want to avoid heat damage and also how they make my hair look straight post the haircut when i have naturally 2c waves), but they say the blow dry is essential so they can know how the style looks and if there’s some additional trimming to be done. Do you think this is essential?

1) Yes, they did
2) I don’t think that’s essential especially because that’s not how you are going to style it πŸ™‚

Hey my hair is long and I’m looking for a haircut but I’m a bit scared to decide myself so can you tell a nice haircut which will be great for my long hair.(I don’t want to short my hairs but want a little volume which will look good when left open plz reply)

Do you know any salon chains that are reputed to be CG friendly?

There are none in India that I know of
