  • My curly haircut at BBlunt Bangalore

My hair was getting very heavy at the ends because the layers weren’t tapered at the ends. This was pulling my hair down causing it to look wavy at the roots and not curly. It was getting a little difficult for me to manage all the weight. So I decided that it’s time for a haircut. There are no salons in India like Devachan or Ouidad that specifically cater to curly hair needs. But since BBLUNT was one of the first brands in India that had a product specifically for curly hair (their BBLUNT High Definition Curl Defining Leave in Cream), I decided to try their salon for the curly haircut.

I booked an appointment at BBLUNT Magrath Road, Bengaluru. I chose to get my curly haircut done by their Senior Stylist (I think her name was Muang, or was it Maung :|) at the cost of INR 1400. Here are their prices and services – BBLUNT Salon Menu. Let’s see how it went!

  1. She was a sweet chubby lady 🙂 First she analyzed my hair. All I told her was that I wanted more layers, but she analyzed my hair perfectly. She told me there was too much weight at the bottom, there weren’t enough layers, my bangs were too thick and that my roots were flat. She told me everything that was on my mind 🙂 BBLUNT curly haircut (4)
  1. Next we went for a hair wash. She washed and conditioned my hair with BBLUNT products. BBLUNT curly haircut (3)
  1. Then she started with the hair cut. Her scissors and fingers moved in precision to remove the weight off my hair and create volume and layers. She addressed each concern area one after the other. She even patiently explained why she was doing each cut. For e.g. how the bangs cut bluntly at the center took shape when moved to each side of the forehead. She was also keen to know my curly hair routine and just generally things related to curly hair.
  1. The drying part is probably what surprised me the most. Every salon that I have been to in the past proceeds to blow-dry your curly hair destroying all curl formation. She took out the diffuser attachment 🙂 First she applied Kerastase Nutritive Oleo-curl Definition Crème (that was the first time somebody used curl products on me in a salon!) in sections, finger coiled them and scrunched them (yes she knew it all :D). Then she diffused the sections until they were about 80% dry. Then she followed it with Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oleo Complexe for shine.

My hair looked beautiful and it was the first time I was walking out of a salon with curly hair as opposed to blow dried hair 🙂

What I liked about my haircut at the BBLUNT Salon:

  1. She did not tell me not to get layers for curly hair. I have had a lot of hair stylists tell me that layers increase curl volume and make you look poofy. No – layers create movement in your curls and prevent the dreaded triangle head. Here’s an article explaining it all – Haircuts for curly hair
  2. She did not give me advices on how “straightening” or “smoothening” can make my life better. I love my curly hair and wouldn’t trade it for anything! In fact she told me how much she loved my hair 🙂
  3. She did not beat the life out of me trying to detangle my curly hair with a brush. She gently used a wide toothed comb.
  4. She didn’t blow dry my hair after the cut. She used curl products, scrunched my hair and semi dried my hair using a diffuser attachment.

What I didn’t so much enjoy about my experience at BBLUNT Salon:

  1. She didn’t cut my hair dry. Curly hair specialists cut curly hair dry so that they can judge the actual length of the hair as curly hair shrinks considerably after drying. And now after getting back home and styling it on my own, I noticed the layers are a little high and I am not able to leave my hair open that easily.
  2. They didn’t allow me to click much pictures of the whole process (Hehe I know this is not related to the haircut :P)

Overall it was a good experience. It’s just been 2 days since the haircut and as with all my haircuts in the past, I sort of have an adjustment/experiment period of some weeks after the haircut before I know how exactly how my hair will behave and what exactly I should be doing to bring out the best curls. For e.g. how much product to use (since the density and length have reduced), if or not to rake the product into my hair, how to style it and all that. Hopefully within a few weeks I will learn that 🙂

Haha !! Anjana I enjoyed reading your post especially this lines (that was the first time somebody used curl products on me in a salon!)…… very well written and after reading this post I want to explore BBlunt’s salon… I just want to know have you told them in advance that you have curly hair ?? Thanks for the post 🙂

Hahaha thanks! I did ask them for their curly hair specialist over phone. And after getting there she analysed my curls in person.

Thanks Anjana !!

You look gorgeous!
I was wondering if there were any hairstyles, you would suggest for daily use? Something beyond a pony? Advice would be much appreciated. 🙂
P.s- Honestly looking forward to the next PhotoDiary. 🙂

Thanks Sukanya 🙂 🙂 Ya I have been asked for that a lot. I guess I should have done it before the haircut because now I am yet to understand my curls’ behaviour post the haircut 🙁 But I assure you – as soon as I figure out how to deal with this new cut, I will do a post on it 🙂 Along with the next photodiary 😀

Just wow!! 😊

Thanks Sneha 🙂

Nice hair cut:)

Thanks Shabby 🙂

Hey i love love your blog. The haircut is fab, even i would not trade my curly hair for anything in the world?.

Just one quick question- have you straightened your crown? and where and for how much did you get them straightened? I have been wanting to get my crown straightened but am too worried that it will end up looking weird if not done correctly and also the places i inquired quoted different rates- ofcourse after trying to convince me to get my entire hair straightened.

Hey Anuja!! After the haircut, they blow dried the bangs which of course wore off after my next wash. Earlier I used to straighten my bangs(not the whole crown, just the bangs) with a straightener(a Philips one). Even at that time I didn’t go for permanent smoothening/straightening because though immediately after it looks good, once your hair starts growing, it would look weird at the roots(half curly-half straight) and then you would have to wait to grow them out so that you can cut them off. Now I wear my bangs curly. You can see it here – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/photodiary-fall-love-curly-hair-volume-4/ . Even if I do feel like straightening my bangs on a particular day, I just use a straightening rod on that day because otherwise like I said before, once your bangs start growing, it would look really weird at the roots. With the rod, you have your curly hair back after the next wash 😀

Ah! That’s a better idea- You have gorgeous hair. I am going to start following your curly hair routine- hopefully then mine will also make do without regularly straightening them at the crown. Fingers crossed.

Thanks a lot Anuja! Do let me know after some time how it turns out for you 🙂

ya sure 🙂

Lovely! I am also waiting for the day we have salons dedicated to curly/wavy hair in India.

I know!!

Any good salon fir curly hair in delhi? Guide guys

Hi Anjana,

Do you have any recent update/suggestions on above post, as I am also looking for a trained curly hair expert?
So far I also got your 2016 review most relevant to what I am looking for and I am thinking to take an appointment.

Should I take it BBLUNT salon or BBLUNT academy?

I am not sure of the difference between the 2 but I’d suggest the Magrath Road one – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/my-curly-haircut-at-bblunt-bangaloremagrath-road-with-shafad/

Hi anjana ,IAM Dr babitha,an ayurvedic Dr by profession.liked ur article on hair cut.i too have curly hair.my simple tips are avoid chemical shampoos and conditioners.co wash with natural home made ones in three days.use a silk pillow night to block moisture to curls.eat a balanced diet.

Hi Anjana,

I love the way you wear your bangs straight and the rest of your hair curly in this post. At home, to get this look, have you tried blow-drying your hair? If you do, could you please share the name of the dryer and products that you used? Also, if you have a recommendation for a dual voltage hairdryer , would you please let me know? My hair is in desperate need of help. Thanks so much!

Nope, I don’t straighten my bangs anymore because of the heat damage
