  • Matrix Biolage Conditioners Review – UltraHydraSource, SmoothProof, ColorLast

I am going to do this review a little different from my other reviews. It’s going to be more of a comparison between the 3 varieties of the Matrix Biolage Conditioners – UltraHydraSource, SmoothProof, ColorLast.

Matrix Biolage UltraHydraSource Aloe Conditioner – Hydrating for very dry hair

1st five ingredients – Water, Cetearyl Alcohol (smoothing good alcohol), Palm oil, Behentrimonium Chloride(cuticle smoothening surfactant), Glycerin (humectant). Aloe comes much later and so is almost negligible. No silicones. Isopropyl Alcohol is a drying alcohol but it is not in the 1st five ingredients and so it will not dry out hair. It is added for a better formulation.

Price – Around 400 INR for the bigger tube. You can buy it here (India) or here (US).

Around 180 INR for the smaller one. You can buy it here.

Matrix Biolage SmoothProof Camellia Conditioner – Smoothing for frizzy hair

1st five ingredients – Water, Cetearyl Alcohol (smoothing good alcohol), Palm oil, Behentrimonium Chloride(cuticle smoothening surfactant), Glycerin (humectant). Camellia seed oil comes much later and so is almost negligible. No silicones. Isopropyl Alcohol is a drying alcohol but it is not in the 1st five ingredients and so it will not dry out hair. It is added for a better formulation.

Price – Around 300 INR for the bigger tube. You can buy it here (India) or here (US).

Around 180 INR for the smaller one. You can buy it here.

So as of now, both the varieties are almost the same! This is why it is important to read the ingredients and not just the label!

Matrix Biolage ColorLast Orchid Color Protecting Conditioner – Color Protecting for color treated hair

1st five ingredients – Water, Cetearyl Alcohol (smoothing good alcohol), Behentrimonium Chloride(cuticle smoothening surfactant), Glycerin(humectant), Cetyl Esters (emollient).  No palm oil in this variety.  Plus it has a water soluble silicone (no worry of build up). Orchid is right at the end of the list which means it’s as good as not being there!

CG Friendly: Yes
Texture : Thick, creamy
Smell : The smell is really strong and not a pleasing fruity or tropical smell
Packaging : Flexible tube with flip cap

Performance : All 3 conditioners have all the properties of a good conditioner. Many of my readers even use this as a leave in (since there are very less cheap leave ins in India that are CG friendly). Since they are really thick and quite rich (especially the first 2), these aren’t great for co washing.

Final thoughts : Matrix Biolage Conditioners are cheap, easily available, have 2 CG friendly options. The first 2 varieties are great for coarse thick curly hair because they have palm oil. Lighter hair patterns will like the 3rd one better.

Hi there,

After so many years of hating my hair , I have just chopped off my chemically straightened hair and want to start CG. Are there any special products we can use for colour protection plus CG cos I recently coloured my hair. Tia for your advice
