L’Oréal Smooth Intense Smoothing Conditioner

L’Oréal Smooth Intense Smoothing Conditioner: This is one conditioner which is silicone free among the various L’Oréal conditioners easily available at all shops in India. And so I was requested a review of this conditioner by some of my readers. Here goes!

Description by L’Oréal: L’Oréal laboratories have succeeded in combining Argan Oil and Silk protein, which is naturally rich in essential fatty nutrients:

• 48* Hour Protection: The crème formula nourishes and smoothes your hair from root to tip making it look more smooth & manageable.
• It shields your hair from the effect of humid or dry weather.

Price: INR 170 for 175 ml. You can buy it here(India).

Ingredient Analysis:

L’Oréal Smooth Intense Smoothing Conditioner has some great oils like palm oil and argan oil which should ideally have made it very moisturizing. It is completely silicone free. Hydroxyethylcellulose is a gelling and thickening agent which can cause a matte-y stringy effect in some curls. Hydrolysed silk is a protein, so protein sensitive hair types should use this with caution. Isopropyl Alcohol is very drying to hair but it is towards the end of the ingredient list and so not high in concentration.

CG Friendly: Yes
Texture: The conditioner is a thick, dense, almost waxy product with average slip and detangling ability.
Smell: The smell is very strong. It is not a tropical fruity smell.
Packaging: The usual plastic bottle with flip cap of L’Oréal conditioners.

Performance:

Here’s how I apply conditioners – How to wash & condition curly hair and here is a post with my full curly hair care routine – My curly hair routine.

+ Can be used as a cheap protein treatment for those curls that need a protein dose once in a while – Difference between dry and damaged hair – Moisture v/s Protein

+ Provides decent hydration and definition to curls

+ The slip is good(not great) and detangling is quite easy

–  Because of the oils in the ingredients, it is not so great as a co-washing conditioner as it is not light. Enliven Natural Fruit Extracts Conditioner wins here.

– May not suit protein sensitive hair

In short: For its cheap cost and good oils, L’Oréal Smooth Intense Smoothing Conditioner is a good hydrating silicone free conditioner in India. Here’s a List of curly hair products in India.

I was looking for a leave-in conditioner to use for my 4 year old daughter. is this a leave-in conditioner. Some leave-in conditioners online cost above 2k. Not fits my pocket at all.
My daughter has curly hair, it is curly but not heavy type. I don’t know the exact terms.
What products can I use for her? Any recommendations please.

Hey Sony, this is a rinse out conditioner but can double up as a leave in. Can you mail me some pics of your daughter’s hair?

Hi Anjana, just stumbled upon your awesome blog. I have a question. We have been hearing all the time that leaving hair open frequently eventually leads to frizz and damage. I have experienced it myself. Also, there’s a lot of dust and pollution where I live, which adds to the damage already. But then if I dont let my curls be, they’ll naturally undefine themselves and lose their curly nature. What should I do?

How can leaving hair open cause damage? On the other hand, hair ties and clips cause mechanical damage on hair. While traveling, cover your hair with a silk scarf to protect it from external factors like wind and pollution.

Hai Anjana, I have a dry scalp so I use this product as my cowash.but even after my wash I used to get dry itchy scalp and flakes..is it because of protein in the product?
Could you please suggest products for cowash – dry scalp. (3b – medium density- low porosity)

Co wash doesn’t suit all scalps. You may try this one also https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/revlon-flex-body-building-protein-conditioner-review/

Hi Anjana,
I have got heavy hair fall after trying this shampoo. I ve not tried much products on hair and doesn’t know if my hair is protein sensitive.

Sorry.. conditioner

And I love the feeling this conditioner gives to my hair.

Can it be used as leave in conditioner, and if i make it a habit, will give rise to side effects

Yes you can. Nope

You said it doubles up as a leave in but what about build ups and flaky thingy??

You mean it does that to your hair?

I’m using wow conditioner currently, so I applied it as a leave in with lesser amount but I noticed white flaky thing on my dried hair. So does this create a white flaky thing when used as a leave in???

I haven’t seen it, but it could also be because of your product combinations

Hi, which affordable conditioner can used as a leave in ? Pls suggest a light conditioner , Coz loreal one is so thick for my hair 🙇

Which u will prefer more as leave in, revlon, enliven or oriflame one?

Enliven or Oriflame – both are good

Which is more lightweight?

Enliven

Which variety of enliven conditioner is best ?

I hve been using this L’Oréal Paris smooth intense conditioner for past 6 months and it works amazing for me except that it makes my hair a little dry .but this product has a lot of alcohol in it .almost everything ends with ‘ol’. Is it healthy to continue using this product ? or will it cause any effect in future

Nope, please read the ingredient analysis in the post ^

👍🏻Tnks

Hi Anjana, I have been using the L’oreal Smooth Intense as a conditioner itself as well as a leave-in conditioner for almost 1- 1 1/2 years now n I loved it. But I have been told that the conditioner is being discontinued. So is it okay if I use the Matrix biolage ultra hydrasource hydrating masque as a conditioner? I want to avoid as much silicon as I can
Please help

Yes Jui, you can

Can u please suggest a cg friendly conditioner with same slip and detangling ability as loreal smooth intense conditioner. I tried revlon flex and enliven conditioners, but none have that conditioning property like loreal…please suggest a similar conditioner with similar consistency and ability.

Any updates on these products available in India for each hair type. Mine is type 3b/c and I’m looking for a conditioner. The posts are from 3 yrs back and the item is not available now.

I have heard that Re’equil conditioner is a good replacement for Smooth Intense

Can i use this loreal conditioner as leave-in?

Yes absolutely!
