Here is a huge list of Sulphate free shampoos in India. Being Sulphate free, they are all CG friendly/CG approved shampoos. I will keep updating it as and when I get new information 🙂 Also, since brands keep changing their formula every now & then, it’s always good to check their latest ingredients list to make sure they haven’t included any sulphates lately. These are products that either I love or I love the ingredients list.
A note : I am only including sulphate free shampoos that don’t have any silicones, because to prevent silicone build-up on hair, you need a sulphate shampoo and that defeats the purpose of going sulphate free! I have also not included shampoos that say they are sulphate free but don’t have a full ingredients label. If you have decided to go sulphate free, remember that you need to also exclude olefin sulfonate from your products. Here’s why – Why some sulphate-free shampoos are harsh. And so this list should ideally be called ‘List of sulphate, silicone and olefin sulfonate free shampoos‘. If you are going sulphate free, remember that none of your products should have silicones – or else there will be build up.

Hiee anjana! Have you tried wow shampoos yourself? Are you sure about them being sulphate free?
Anjana
March 14, 2017 at 11:28 am
Hi Sameera, if you click on the links of the WOW shampoo, you will be taken to amazon.in – you can check the ingredient label in the pictures 🙂 These 3 varieties are sulphate free. Why the doubt Sameera?
Sameera
March 20, 2017 at 7:15 pm
Hie again anjana! I’m glad you replied. I checked WOW shampoo ingredient label already. But i’m quite confused cause i found over exaggerated positive reviews and mysterious negative reviews there.
Anyways, i’ve silky straight but thin or fine hair. My hair are not falling that bad but scalp gets quite dry and flaky whenever i shampoo. What shampoo would you recommend me for hair growth and also softness?
Anjana
March 21, 2017 at 9:59 am
Hi Sameera, have you tried cowashing? It will not dry out your hair or scalp. Also check this – 7 ways to grow healthy hair. Shampoos and conditioners cannot accelerate hair growth. Shampoos cannot make hair soft, do you condition after every wash?

You can find the full ingredients list on the amazon link KK

March 24, 2017 at 10:24 am
Hi anjana! As I said I’ve thin hair, I’m afraid if cowashing would damage them. Yes I do condition my hair most times after wash. and also I’m applying aloe vera gel from the leaf only to my scalp and that helps me to heal my dry scalp.
I read your post, and I oil my twice a week, detangle with care, and do all. But my hair never grow.
If you say it’s genes, then both of my sisters have long and thick hair haha!
Thank you for talking!
Anjana
March 24, 2017 at 10:36 am
Hi Sameera! Even in siblings, the genetic makeup is not the same. Has your hair stopped growing suddenly or was it this way all the while? If it’s the former, there may be some underlying cause like stress, hormonal changes, side effect of medicines etc. If it’s the latter, then I guess that’s just the genes 🙂

It’s affordable and easily available too 🙂
BTW thanks for the lists it’s so hard to find cg friendly products here. 😥

March 30, 2017 at 3:01 am
I have tried the ‘SLS and Paraben Free’ range of hair products from Khadi Naturals and it works very well for me. Since most ingredients used in their haircare products are indigenous, I believe they produce best results for gorgeous desi girl curls

Hi Preeti, like mentioned in the article, I haven’t added Khadi products to the list because their labels don’t have the full ingredients list 🙂

Hi Anjana,
I have silky straight and fine hair.
My hair are falling real real bad and also the scalp remains quite dry, flaky and itchy all the times. What shampoo would you recommend me to reduce my hairfall? The hairfall increased as I moved to Noida (the water seems to be extremely polluted here). Thanks for the help!

These sulphate free shampoos are mild. Make sure you have no silicones in your conditioner or leave ins if you are using only a sulphate free shampoo. Otherwise you will have buildup.

I have wavy (2A ) type of hair, which is prone to frizz and dryness and have noticed increased hair fall in past few years (after I moved to Chennai from Delhi). I have itchy scalp, with mild dandruff and since I live in Chennai, my scalp sweats too much (I don’t have itchy and dandruff issue when I am in Delhi or anywhere apart from Chennai -_-). Can you suggest me some suitable shampoo? I was planning to buy, OGX Intensely Invigorating Eucalyptus Mint Shampoo as this was the only shampoo I could find free of SLS, Paraben and Silcone, within my budget.

Why you have not mentioned wow apple cider vinger shampoo in above list ?? I am currently using it and it is also sls free ? I have doubt that you have mentione three from same brand and leave only one why ?
Anjana
July 13, 2017 at 1:34 pm
Hey Anjali..that’s because it has a silicone PEG 12 dimethicone (it is water soluble though). As I’ve mentioned on top of this post, I’ve included only those without silicones and olefin sulfonate (so that it helps strict CG followers) 🙂

Hi, I wanted to try the first suggestion from you. Lovea nature shampoo. I observe though there are no silicone n sulphate it still contains few not so good ingredients like peg-150,Polyquaternium-7 etc. I m confused to buy r not. Can u advice. Also what’s up r opinion on Bon organic shampoos
Anjana

Why do you want to avoid those 2 ingredients Chaitu ? Regarding Bon organic shampoos, they don’t have the full ingredients list without which I cannot comment on them.

I am trying to check each and every item on the list for sulphate free shampoo from the past few weeks to find a good one to settle on(of course that too after I read this blog suggesting not all sulphate free are true). In this course of searching few sites state that few ingredients mentioned in lovea shampoo are low to moderate hazard. That’s why I asked the question. Not only those two ingredients mentioned in my comments but others are there too. I thought u would know better than me
Anjana
July 31, 2017 at 11:44 am
These 2 ingredients are widely used in many hair care products. Can you please link the article that says these are harmful? Moreover low to moderate hazard ingredients are green flagged (meaning they are used widely). Also parabens are high hazard flagged – but there are mixed opinions on their use. It all depends on what you want to use/avoid.

Hi Anjana, Thanks for the list ! I am on a hunt for a good sulphate free shampoo from a long time.. .! I Tried many shampoos but none suited me. I have wavy thing air with oily scalp. I am now using lovea menthe shampoo for oily hair which is suiting me. Also one more recommendation from my end is soul tree shampoo. They claim it’s sulphate free. Also can you give me any review on Mama Earth shampoo and conditioner ? They also claim that they are sulphate and paraben free.
Anjana
November 9, 2017 at 4:13 pm
Thanks for the suggestions Devina! I’ve added Soul Tree shampoos to the list. Mama Earth list the ingredients as “Key” ingredients which usually means the full ingredients list is not given. But looking at the list, it does look like a full list. Since I am not fully convinced, I will not be adding those to the list 🙂

Also did you check Just herbs shampoos they are also SLS and paraben free. Also what about ogx maracoon argaon oil shampoo is it sulphate free ?

Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is not a sulphate. Can you post the ingredients of the Just Herbs one? I have mentioned about OGX shampoos in this post itself – why they are harsh. Have a look at the post again 🙂

Hi anjana. I bought mamaearth shampoo. FYI.. As I mentioned all the ingredients they mentioned in their site are as mentioned as ‘key ingredients’ on the actual bottle which I bought from mamaearth. Not sure what their full list is. I could not attach a image over here
Anjana
February 6, 2018 at 10:32 am
I had asked them the same and the told me it’s because they may change their formula. But considering that they have mentioned even the surfactants and emollients(and not just “herbal” extracts) in the key ingredients, we can believe that it is indeed the full list as mentioned on their website.

Hi Anjana,
Awesome blog and post.. I have curly hair.. used to have thick hair but lost half in past few months.
First time starting with CG routine. Can you please suggest which shampoo I should go from your suggested list. I checked out the complete list but couldn’t decide. It will be great if you can suggest Shampoo, conditioner (leave in) and gel for first timer. I know what suits me better I should find but still if you can suggest something which will help for starters.
Also my 12 year old daughter has super thick and curly hair and I comb n tie them as its unmanageable. My question for her is – Can I use all the products on her hair. or u can suggest me some method for her please.
Thanks.

Hey Anjana,
I have smoothened my curly hair few months back and was told to follow professional shampoo and conditioner to maintain it….But after using them I started noticing huge hair fall which is why I stopped using them and switched to other shampoo (which are not chemical free either like Garnier, tresseme, dove, patanjali etc etc) and it has now been 11 months since the treatment and I still have huge or massive hair fall under the shower. Now I have curly hair in the top and wavy in the middle which has become a huge problem..I been also noticing graying of my hair may be because of the treatment. And my scalp has become very dry, flaky and dandruff prone(may because I had stopped using oils before shampooing).Earlier I had thick hair and due to massive hair fall it has resulted in hair thinning and very sleek in the middle and flat due to curly hair in the crown of my head.i am just 16 and really really really worried can u please be kind enough to help me find a right shampoo.P.s I am tired of chemical shampoo so can I use cg friendly shampoo???and also I want my curly head back 3b or 3c type please suggest something. Also I have tried to apply egg and lemon but nothing worked!!!!!!!! My front curly hair just above the forehead now looks brittle and out of shape which looks weird plz help

Final query, I’m thinking of using head and shoulders as o don’t like applying conditioners I’m deciding on applying hair oil and washing it with h&s.Is that okay for damaged hair?
Anjana

Is that OK as what? What is your goal with your hair? What do you want to achieve?

I have both curly and wavy hair so that’s the problem…can you review head and shoulders..will it make the top part of my hair dry and brittle??I just need a opinion on the shampoo before using it..
Anjana

It will not make it any more brittle than it already is. But it will not resolve your problem with dry hair. No shampoo will. You need conditioner.

Hi anjana,
how r u? well this post is way better than many other on internet. So comming to point, my question is simple. i’ve silky straight hair which is a mess for me amd moreover they are thinning as the years are passing by.. which are making me mad and worry XD. so could u recomend me affordable shampoos, conditioners from this list or any other, or any other way or procedure to stop this thinning problem , moreover this thinning are causing hairfall too and they are unbearable to handle, hope u could understand.
Waiting for a hopeful reply ASAP 🙂

Hi Anjana,
I really liked your post. I am thinking of starting CG method too. I have frizzy curly hair , 3a/3b types. Earlier I used to use Tressme shampoo and conditioner. I have now started using Enliven products as mentioned in your blog. But, after shower, I have been using L’Oreal Professional Liss Unlimited Leave-In Cream (150ml) – https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B071G9L51P/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I really like this leave in cream. Is it ok to use it ?
Also, i have a 4 year old daughter who has curly hair just like me(though hers is not as dry as mine). Can i use conditioner on such young girls? Can it cause hair fall over a period of time ? All this while I have been using Johnson baby shampoo on her. But, now i would want to start some mild CG friendly shampoo and conditioner ? Which one do you recommend that is not harsh for her hair and does not cause permanent damage?
Anjana

Hi, thank you for this awesome blog. My hair is thin, slightly wavy (or curly may be, I’m not sure) and I hated it. I have never been to a salon for hair treatment. Even cutting/trimming of hair is done at home. I used dove shampoo and conditioner for years. My hair condition also worsened because of hypothyroidism for which I’m already under medication (I read somewhere that hypothyroidism is one of the reasons of thinning hair). I switched to tressemme products a few months back, until I came across your blog. I am now planning to switch to silicone and sulphate free products. So thank you once again. I got the enliven conditioner as suggested on your blog. Also I found this shampoo called healthkart apple cider vinegar shampoo. It says it contains sodium lauryl sarcosinate as one of the ingredients, so not very sure.
Please do check. Here’s the amazon link: https://www.amazon.in/HealthKart-Apple-Cider-Vinegar-Shampoo/dp/B07GS3W4FK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540723531&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SL180_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=healthkart+apple+cider+vinegar+shampoo

October 29, 2018 at 7:01 pm
I meant to ask if it is OK to use it. Most shampoos say sodium lauryl sulphate, this one says sodium lauryl sarcosinate. I wasn’t sure if it is a kind of sulphate or not.
Anjana
October 29, 2018 at 7:29 pm
It is not a sulphate. This post has the ingredients to avoid – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/cg-method-cg-friendly-products-india-intermediate-advanced-curly-hair-care/

Hi Anjana,
I have type 3b long hair which are highly prone to fly-aways mostly around hairline and dry/split ends as result of frequent breakage despite oiling and conditioning regularly.
I have started using silk pillow, as you suggested which keeps my hair at bay to an extent and after watching your videos, am convinced co-washing can do wonders too.
I am just not sure what shampoo/conditioner from WOW in particular should I switch to, as I have thick dry hair problems and avoiding any harsh option like Dove range.
