Enliven gel is pretty good and silicone free! Also, other silicone free conditioners are loreal smooth intense conditioner and giovanni range.
Kinky curly knot today is a silicone free leave in 😊

Hey when we apply curl creams can we skip gels for styling. Are curl creams enough to hold the curls like gels ? And at what stage creams are applied in reference to LOC ?.
Anjana
November 27, 2016 at 12:27 pm
Divya, some creams have polymers and may be enough for light hold. Check the ingredients. Usually creams should be followed by gels if you really want strong hold. LOC stands for liquid-oil-cream so cream would be the last stage 🙂

Hi Anjana di!
I’m starting out the cg method and I have 2b to 2c curly/wavy hair… I’ve decided on using mamaearth onion hairfall shampoo, enliven friut conditioner…. However I’m not able to decide anything in the case of creme and gel… Please prescribe something that falls in the budget of 500-700/- for both items… And also is oiling with coconut oil fine?
And for refreshing my hair, what all products are needed?
Your blog is soo good! 💜

A leave in conditioner hydrates and nourishes hair. A cream also does the same but may also have curl defining or enhancing properties. Have you seen my video (routine)? There I show how I leave conditioner in my hair and apply cream.

Hi Anjana,
This is a boy query 🙂 kindly guide.
I am looking for a chemical free (or products with minimal chemical), which can help me keep my hairs shine, hold a bit and gives them some volume ( at least don’t weigh them down) and need not be washed out in the night.
My hairs gets curls if I let them grow beyond 3-4 inches especially at their ends. They become frizzy and dry if I don’t oil them after shampoo no matter whatever their length is. Honestly speaking I guess I am looking for an alternative to daily oil.
Thanks in anticipation!

The shampoo is sulphate free but the conditioner has silicones. There can be build up because sulphates are needed to remove silicones.

Hey! Great blog! I learnt quite some stuff, which I didn’t in other blogs. I love the fact that you have so clearly mentioned the products that can be used which are available in India. I do have a few questions though. I have hair very similar to yours except it is very dry and gets frizzy almost immediately after I leave the shower. I do use leave-in conditioners, but they don’t seem hydrating enough. Also, is there any way, I can prevent my hair from falling while detangling it when wet after applying the conditioner. And how do I prevent hair from getting tangled during the days when I haven’t washed my hair. I wear a pony tail and have notice that, it ruins my curl patter, but leaving it loose cause more hair fall and tangles. Any suggestions?
Anjana
November 17, 2017 at 10:29 am
So glad to hear that Anoosha 🙂 What is your curl type and what products do you use? While detangling, naturally shed hair comes off – it’s a natural process and there’s nothing to worry about that. You can read point 3 – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/curly-hair-faq/ For the tangles, read this – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/7-ways-keep-curly-hair-tangle-free-between-washes/ Leaving it open will NOT cause hairfall.

Hey. I have been using your method for the past one month or so and while my curls are looking good, my hair is always frizzy. Currently I am using the Loreal conditioner, Garnier leave in cream and Schwarzkopf Gel you had recommended. What I am observing is that my hair seems frizzy even when wet and during the squish and condish stage itself my hair does not clump as well and is frizzy. Any suggestions on how to prevent this and is this because I am doing something wrong?

Hi Anjana! I have 3A curls and am looking for the cheapest yet CG friendly products. I have been using gatsby level 5 hair gel and it seems to work well. My only concern is that it has alchohol. It does not really dry my hair out though. Do you think alchohol could ruin my hair it the long run? Also what are your views in garnier oil-in-cream leave in?
Thanks 🙂

Hi Anjana! I know you say you don’t make a big deal of which shampoo to use but I need some help. I’ve used 2 bottles of the WOW shampoo (the only moderately affordable and easily available sulphate free shampoo) but it just doesn’t seem to work for me. It makes my hair feel more dry. So I’ve thought of shifting to sulphate shampoos. But I still don’t want any silicone (neither in my shampoo nor conditioner.) Would you please recommend a sulphate shampoo with no silicone? Will using the pantene lively clean twice every week week be too harmful/drying since its a clarifying shampoo?

Hi Anjana! I’m not in India, but the United States and I was wondering if you’ve ever heard of the brand: As I am? I use their cowash, curling jelly, and leave in conditioner and they are amazing! Do you happen to know if those are CG approves (I know the cowash is). Also I use the shea moisture masque that contains apple cider vinegar as a deep conditioner and regular conditioner. It seems to work amazingly, do you happen to know if that is CG approved as well? Thank you for all your help! Looking at your site has helped me so much in my journey💘

Hey,
The problem is I have chemically straightened my hair thrice within 4 years..and since I did not want long hair due to hair fall I have cut it short…I face greying, my hair looks dull and came across the concept of build up only recently.
I want to go back to my virgin hair and I do not know which products and routine to begin with. I do oil my hair and wash twice a week…but rest seems a big ?

Hey Anjana,
Can I use my wash conditioner as a leave in?
I have the TGIN triple moisture conditioner and the Jessicurl too shea conditioner After I am done washing, I use these as leave ins(separately, not both on the same wash day)
Also I refresh with these.. Do I need to use a different conditioner as a leave in?
I have been getting amazing results using these as leave ins but am concerned it should not harm hair in the long run.
Thanks!

Hi Anjana
I used Enliven conditioner along with LÓreal Homme Strong Hold Gel. My curls definitely look more defined, however, the frizz doesn’t seem to go away. I t-shirt dry my hair. Is it because of the amount of product I applied or should I give it more time? Its been 2 washes so far.
Please let me know how I can go about in changing my routine.
Thank you for all your help!

Hi Anjana
Thanks for your detailed posts. Appreciate the effort!
I had a question regarding the linkage of the products to breakouts and acne. I get most of them near my hairline and cheek. Do you think these hair products might have something to do with them? I currently use almost the entire Boucleme range and love what it does to my hair. Your insights would be super helpful!
Best

I have righteous roots rx hair oil. I bought this before I knew they had a prepoo oil. Can I still use the rx oil for prepoo? Will I still get the benefit of it?
Or along with prepoo, can I also use it to refresh my hair on non wash days?
Refresh meaning to keep it frizz free
Note: I have a type 2a wavy hair. 😀
Anjana
January 28, 2019 at 5:34 pm
Yes you can use it as prepoo, check this https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/righteous-roots-hair-rx-oil-review/
Refreshing wavy hair with an oil blend doesn’t sound like a good idea as it may weigh down your hair and cause it to look greasy

Okay..hi there.
I have been going through curly hair blogs since a decade.. but trust me I just figured out what is right way for my hair today after seeing the comments below. But before I start I need your suggestion.
My hair is like beach wavy to curly(if it makes sense I explained well😣) it’s like really loose curls, not straight from the scalp but curls just below the neck… really loose curls. So use Pantene lively clean shampoo. Revlon flex conditioner. But the conditioner is making my hair rough and dry ( I think maybe because of protein sensitivity) and every time I end up using dove conditioner at the end. So today i just diluted my shampoo+Revlon conditioner and used dove conditioner at the end. Co washing only with Revlon conditioner making my hair frizzy. Haven’t tried enliven one(will be getting soon as soon as I complete Revlon)
My doubt is can I mix both clarifying shampoo and conditioner (mostly silicone free and sometimes any) to wash my hair?
I figured out to use clarifying shampoo , silicone free conditioner and ogx curl cream. I hope this works at least. and can you say I can use like this or not.
Or can I use general dove conditioner for Co washing and conditioning along with a clarifying shampoo ?
I know this sounds weird because I have written a lot..sorry.. But confused how my hair is behaving after all😣

Hey, thanks so much for the video. I’ve been looking for an actual video with steps for quite some time now. I have hair thats comparatively long and reaches my buttocks. The natural curls don’t really hold tgroughout the length probably due to the weight. It’s straight on top and curly only in the lower half. Hence, Im thinking of adopting the CG method. Just one main question. I’ve always grown up oiling my hair before a wash. Is that against the CG routine? Because co-washing would NEVER take the oil out. Also the method you use of diluting shampoo and washing just once would never work to take the extra oil out. Please help:(
Anjana
February 12, 2019 at 6:19 pm
Nikita, you could use a sulphate free shampoo to get the oil out

Hi Anjana,
First of all, Thanks for this blog!
I have been following this from last one year.
My only concern is L’Oreal Paris Hair Expertise Smooth Intense Conditioner is out of stock everywhere(online and offline).
It suited my curly hair type, because of its thick consistency.
It’d be great if you could suggest some similar product in the same price range.
Envilen conditioner didn’t suit me since the consistency is watery.

Hi Anjana,
I’ve been loving your blog, and have recently started your methods and tips for my (I think) wavy hair. Though a lot of these products are either discontinued or massively differently priced -and also SOOoo many news products are now-a-days introduced in the market.
Would you be keen on updating/re-doing these list? Would really love if you could add in newer products like Arata, Mama Earth, newer curl creams etc in these lists.
Would love to know how many of those now make in this list and how 🙂

Hi Anjana,
I love all your posts and reviews! I used to have better curls when I was living in places with humidity. But now I live in Bangalore and my curls are not forming the same shape anymore. Crown is always flat and frizzy. The outermost layer is almost straight and slightly shabby looking. I am not sure what is causing it. The hair that is under the top layer looks less damaged. I have tried many products, including Cantu curl activator leave-in. But it just made my crunchy a bit too crunchy and oily. I would like it to have a fluffy texture. My hair is thick and long. But I just never found anything product that would make my hair curly and fluffy. Do you have any suggestions?

Hey,
This article is kinda old so not sure if I will get a response but I will ask this anyway.
I have wavy hair and have lately been using the squish to condish technique from your blog. It works out great and does give me curls however my hair is still a little frizzy and the curls don’t hold after day 1.
I use moroccan oil after taking shower as a serum. Should I follow that up with a gel to hold the curls?

Anjana

Shivani, Pantene lively clean is a clarifying shampoo and best used once in a while. Look for gentler shampoos for regular cleansing.

but, from 6 months I’m experiencing a lot of hairfall. My hair volume is reduced to half 🙁

Hi Anjana. I’ve been following the cg method (not so strict) for about 2 years now. In the beginning of the cg journey I used Maui moisture conditioner which I got from US (best hair days ever). Now that I’ve emptied it, I tried vilvah conditioner but it was too light for my hair. Then I tried more thicker consistency Shea moisture conditioner but it was too heavy and left residue. I’ve been oiling my hair regularly but recently it started to make my hair more frizzy. I’m a little lost as to what my hair needs. I prefer having a simple routine with minimal products – shampoo, conditioner and flaxseed gel. I checked the list of conditioners but don’t know the consistency of the conditioners. Do you have any recommendations for a conditioner which absorbs easily but still provides curl definition and hold?

Hey Anjana, I’d like to make a suggestion… Could you add Soultree’s revitalising shampoo, anti dandruff shampoo and Ancient living’s shampoos to the list…? (Soultree is certified natural by BDIH Germany) All of them fit the exact cg friendly shampoo requirements… Like they don’t even contain the “use with caution” sodium lauryl sarcosinate and literally *only* contain the surfactants approved by curlsbot and isitcg… and are budget friendly (lemme tell you that I almost cried tears of joy finding these cg friendly products)

Hi Help me out please?
I’m a type 2c-3a CG. My hair is extremely dry and frizzy. Now I’ve started maintaining it. I use Loreal Professional Serie expert shampoo and conditioner (only thing that prevents hairfall for me) and MoroccanOil Curl defining cream. Looking to buy a leave-in conditioner and a Curl gel based on your recommendations.
For leave in, which is your order of preference for me:
1. Ashba leave in for curly hair
2. Cantu shea butter lotion
3. As I am leave in conditioner
Also have you tried this: https://www.target.com/p/curls-blueberry-bliss-reparative-leave-in-conditioner-8-fl-oz/-/A-49118243?clkid=d3fe7076Nff2d11ea8b8d42010a246309&lnm=81938&afid=MagicLinks&ref=tgt_adv_xasd0002
For gels, what would you recommend me (not very particular about hold, but want soft frizz free hair)? Also have you tried https://www.ecoslay.com/collections/stylers/products/orange-marmalade
Have read a lot about these too.
Thanks!

Hi from the USA! I love your blog! You are so informative and just amazing! My hair is very much like yours although post partum it is leaning towards frizz. I’m trying to bring back the curl shape any suggestions? Also do you still use the Deva Curl Gel in your routine given the lawsuit and complaints they got last year/year before? Thank you,Becca!
Anjana

Hi Becca, it may take some time post partum to get the right results. I don’t use Devacurl currently as I am experimenting with some other products – it’s got nothing to do with the lawsuit 🙂

Hey,
I was wondering if you know a little about MamaEarth Conditioners and whether they are good for a CG routine?
Ingredients in Detangle conditioner: Cocoa, Shea Butter, Amla extract, Fenugreek extract, Veg Glycerine, Potassium Sorbate, Tea Tree Oil, Argan Oil, Milk Protein, Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol
Would any conditioner also work as a leave in or only specific conditioners?
Anjana
January 13, 2021 at 2:46 pm
Hi Ipshita, it is missing a cationic surfactant so it may not have slip – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/ingredients-look-conditioner/

Hey, thank you so much, also I left this question on your routine post, but I’ll post it here too:
A query regarding gel, is it helpful in the process of repairing curly hair? Or is it only for styling? Can I skip it for a while, as I am at home and do not find it necessary to style my hair, can I just do a routine of oil–>shampoo–>conditioner–>leave-in? And deep conditioning with natural ingredients occasionally.
I’m a little concerned about applying products to my hair right now as it’s a little damaged and I want to just take care of it and work on reparation while I’m at home
Anjana
January 19, 2021 at 8:58 pm
Yes Ipshita, gel is only for styling. You can skip it at home.

Hi Anjana, so I started using the Happy Heads Shampoo by Mama Earth along with the no tangles conditioner, and while the conditioner is great because it keeps my hair soft and helps with detangling and frizz, I haven’t been able to get the shampoo to lather at all which leaves my hair oily when i use the slightest bit of leave in or any product at all. Can you please help with this?
