Enliven gel is pretty good and silicone free! Also, other silicone free conditioners are loreal smooth intense conditioner and giovanni range.
Kinky curly knot today is a silicone free leave in 😊

Thank you Varuna 🙂

Anjana I have a small question do Pantene lively clean shampoo and loreal intense smooth conditioner help in bringing back your natural curls

Bringing it back from what?

Hi
I have just bought st botanical paraben n sulphate free shampoo n conditioner
Can j use them for curly hair routine Or do I have to change

Hi Sonal, you can start the curly hair routine with whatever products you have. Check this if you want my recommendations – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/beginner-friendly-simple-curly-hair-starter-kit/

Anjana, I have a question, can I use Park Avenue soft hold hair gel? Is that cg friendly?

Hi Tuli, please provide the ingredients

Hey when we apply curl creams can we skip gels for styling. Are curl creams enough to hold the curls like gels ? And at what stage creams are applied in reference to LOC ?.

Divya, some creams have polymers and may be enough for light hold. Check the ingredients. Usually creams should be followed by gels if you really want strong hold. LOC stands for liquid-oil-cream so cream would be the last stage 🙂

Hi , is the Khadi protein hair cream cg friendly? Can i ise it as a leave in cream

Hi Marina, please provide the ingredients

Hi Anjana di!
I’m starting out the cg method and I have 2b to 2c curly/wavy hair… I’ve decided on using mamaearth onion hairfall shampoo, enliven friut conditioner…. However I’m not able to decide anything in the case of creme and gel… Please prescribe something that falls in the budget of 500-700/- for both items… And also is oiling with coconut oil fine?
And for refreshing my hair, what all products are needed?
Your blog is soo good! 💜

i know it is a silly question but, does these product work for boys too?..

Yes absolutely

Hey cna you suggest a sulphate and paraben free shampoo, serum and conditioner.

hey anjana , doing a great work !! i started to cherish my curls for the first time after looking into your blogs. Thank you so much 🙂
And i have a silly doubts …. i bought ogx coconut curls and also bblunt gel , but i am not sure which one to use and when ?
I wash my hair with sunsilk shampoo and condition it with bblunt intense moisture conditioner and t-dry my hair and then scrunch with mythic oil .
sometimes i just use only the tres semme mousse …

Regards,
Madhulikka 🙂

Thank you Madhulikka 🙂 Did you buy the ogx coconut curls butter or conditioner?

Hi,
Do you have to wash your hair daily? What happens the next day? What do you do?

No I only wash my hair once in 2-3 days. I refresh on the other days https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/3-ways-refresh-curly-hair/

Is livon curl cream good??

I haven’t used it as it isn’t CG friendly.

Just read your blog. Had a tough time figuring what to use and what not to.. i am guessing this article will help me in a much better way.
Could you also suggest shampoos as well? (Preferred below Rs.500)
Just going to start your prescribed curly hair routine (praying this works for me)
And also thank you so much for giving people like me (who just can’t get a hold of their curls) an insight to these products. 😊

Hi Anusha, the shampoo list is at the end of this post itself! and thank you 🙂

Hi Anjana,

Hi Chaya. Here are some suggestions :
Shampoo – Any I guess? Most are protein free.
Conditioner – Enliven
Leave in – Kinky curly knot today
Gel – Schwarzkopf Taft Marathon Looks 48H Long Lasting Hold 6 Power Gel
Serum – Mythic oil

Thanks ton… Anjana.

Hi. Can you suggest a silicone free hair serum to use after shampooing? It’s needed for days when you want to skip the styling part and want to go only with a shampoo and a conditioner. Also, thank you for the recommendations. Loved requil conditioner.

I don’t know of any CG friendly serums Diparati

Hey Ashvitha! Check this – Haircuts for curly hair and this – Start Here

Yes you can. But if you are using one that has silicones, remember to use a sulphate shampoo atleast once a week.

Hi Anjana.. Have u tried “Loreal PRofessional Techni Art Spiral Splendour Nutri -Control Cream”. Please could you give a review of this cream. This was suggested to me by a hair stylist for curly hair.

Hey Rinitta.. I haven’t used it. But some of my readers have – Reader Testimonial – Harsha Dsouza

Hi Anjana! Thanks for giving detailed information regarding curly hair. I have gone though the beginners list of products and I am going to start my curly routine soon. I have curls between 2-3, on coarse hair. Need your help to select gel to start with. No limit on budget. Please suggest a gel which is best to your experience. Thanks a lot dear.

Hey Hetal, you can use either the Cantu Custard or Devacurl gel:)

Thanks a ton dear. One more thing, I colour my hair regularly, need touch up once in a month. Please suggest what care should be taken while coloring my hair, so that I can get the best out of my curly hair routine.

Hey..do you use ammonia free colour? then just do a deep conditioning after the coloring. If not, check if your salon does Olaplex treatment.

Yes I use loreal color casting. I will check for olaplex.bso you mean ammonia free colored hair need deep conditioning?

Yes that is correct Hetal

Wats the difference btwn a cream and a live in ? Wats the correct way to use one ?

A leave in conditioner hydrates and nourishes hair. A cream also does the same but may also have curl defining or enhancing properties. Have you seen my video (routine)? There I show how I leave conditioner in my hair and apply cream.

Yes… I have .. but all so many products … it’s mind boggling

You can start with this for ease – Beginner Friendly Products – Curly Hair Starter Kit

Hi Anjana,
Much needed help. My hair type is 2b wavy with lots of frizz. Currently using khadi natural henna shampoo, enliven conditioner and also leave in. Diy flaxseed gel. Still my hair is rough dry and dull. It tangles lot and causes unmanageable frizz. Pls help me. Thanks

Hi Anjana,

This is a boy query 🙂 kindly guide.
I am looking for a chemical free (or products with minimal chemical), which can help me keep my hairs shine, hold a bit and gives them some volume ( at least don’t weigh them down) and need not be washed out in the night.

My hairs gets curls if I let them grow beyond 3-4 inches especially at their ends. They become frizzy and dry if I don’t oil them after shampoo no matter whatever their length is. Honestly speaking I guess I am looking for an alternative to daily oil.
Thanks in anticipation!

Hi Akash, check this – Beginner Friendly Products – Curly Hair Starter Kit, also remember to check the routine (it is same for men and women :)) And read this – Herbal, Natural and Organic Products – Are They as Good as They Claim to Be?

Hey hi… I have been viewing your blog for few months and it’s been a really very good help for me. But right now I started using this product wow! Shampoo and conditioner. Just wanna know what do u feel about this product!? Can u plz put a review about this product too. Thank you.

The shampoo is sulphate free but the conditioner has silicones. There can be build up because sulphates are needed to remove silicones.

Not sure, if it suited you, but i used the WOW shampoo and my scalp got extremely itchy ,the hair got super heavy and seemed super dry on the next day.

I haven’t used it Tanuja..this is a list of products used by either me or my readers. True, all products may not suit everybody

Hi Anjana,
Can you please tell me whether “L’Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Conditioner” is good for curly hair. I have searched your blog but didn’t find any reference to it.

Hey Starlin, if you’ve used it and your hair seems to like it, please continue using it 🙂

Thanks for your reply. Actually I have not yet used it, wanted to know your opinion before buying it. I was skeptical whether to buy or not.
Anyway.. Happy Onam! 🙂

Wish you the same !

Can’t thank enough for this post. Just read your blog for the first time and i am happy to see such dedicated posts for curly hairs. Going to soon try some of the products mentioned 🙂

🙂 🙂

Hey! Great blog! I learnt quite some stuff, which I didn’t in other blogs. I love the fact that you have so clearly mentioned the products that can be used which are available in India. I do have a few questions though. I have hair very similar to yours except it is very dry and gets frizzy almost immediately after I leave the shower. I do use leave-in conditioners, but they don’t seem hydrating enough. Also, is there any way, I can prevent my hair from falling while detangling it when wet after applying the conditioner. And how do I prevent hair from getting tangled during the days when I haven’t washed my hair. I wear a pony tail and have notice that, it ruins my curl patter, but leaving it loose cause more hair fall and tangles. Any suggestions?

So glad to hear that Anoosha 🙂 What is your curl type and what products do you use? While detangling, naturally shed hair comes off – it’s a natural process and there’s nothing to worry about that. You can read point 3 – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/curly-hair-faq/ For the tangles, read this – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/7-ways-keep-curly-hair-tangle-free-between-washes/ Leaving it open will NOT cause hairfall.

Hey. I have been using your method for the past one month or so and while my curls are looking good, my hair is always frizzy. Currently I am using the Loreal conditioner, Garnier leave in cream and Schwarzkopf Gel you had recommended. What I am observing is that my hair seems frizzy even when wet and during the squish and condish stage itself my hair does not clump as well and is frizzy. Any suggestions on how to prevent this and is this because I am doing something wrong?

Can you mail me some pics after you do each step?

Sure! Will mail you tomorrow!

Hi Anjana! I have 3A curls and am looking for the cheapest yet CG friendly products. I have been using gatsby level 5 hair gel and it seems to work well. My only concern is that it has alchohol. It does not really dry my hair out though. Do you think alchohol could ruin my hair it the long run? Also what are your views in garnier oil-in-cream leave in?
Thanks 🙂

How high is the alcohol in the ingredients list Shreya? Many love the oil-in-cream..I didn’t like it though

Hi. Just wanted to ask when i wash my hair and do the srunching n all. how do u detangle them before the next wash. Curly hair tangle really bad. You suggest not to comb once they dry. But not to comb for 3-4 days between washes?

Hey,
Any suggestions/recommendations for curly hair shampoo and leave in conditioner for kids. My daughter is 3 and this is for her.

Thanks!

Chandni, check this – Curly Hair Care for Kids

hi,which conditioners are good for protein sensitive hair?

CG friendly or any type? Budget?

cg friendly and minimum price possible budget

Anjana okay then can i apply gel without applying leave in conditioner

Some curl types or those with dry hair need a leave in also before a gel. Check this – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/beginner-friendly-simple-curly-hair-starter-kit/

Can you please do a review on Garnier Ultra Blends intense repair shampoo ?

Hey Manasa, are you following the CG method?

Currently, I just oil my hair before a hair wash and then use a shampoo and conditioner which are paraben free.

Ok..I don’t review too many shampoos because it is the conditioner and styling products that determine how your hair will look

And this has silicones and I am following the CG method so I can’t use this shampoo

Hi Anjana
Is patent miracle oil good for cg

I haven’t heard of such an oil Sanjana

Hey Anjana, can you please suggest a volumizing conditioner for co wash which is cg too…postpartum hair fall took a toll on my volume..have started with cg method recently but I feel loreal smooth intense is weighing down my curls…

List of Silicone free conditioners in India (with reviews/purchase links) – check revlon flex and oriflame from the list

Hello anjana
I follow CG routine
All this while i have been using homemade masks for deep conditioning
For the first time i want to try some store bought product for deep conditioning
After going through the above list i observed Schwarzkopf’s Spa Essence masque to be budget friendly 500ml for just 540.rs which is super budget friendly i feel… is that cg friendly?? If its not, then is it okay to use in my routine????

It is not CG friendly; you can use it if you are not following a strict CG method

What is strict CG method??? 🤔🤔

Hi! Love your blog! I’ve decided to buy a silk pillowcase due to your recommendation.
I’ve decided to let my curls be and not straighten my hair now onwards.
Will try various methods given by you.
I am still confused about the gel. Do we have to use it after the leave in conditioner? Is it necessary?

If you ask me, it has to be my favourite styling product! I can never skip gels 🙂

kritika Luhariwala

you can check out the palmer’s range of hair care products. they are all CG friendly and affordable. i am currently using the manuka honey flower shampoo from their range.

Thanks for the suggestion 🙂 Will add it to the sulphate free shampoo list

Hey Kritika, just saw that they all have Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate which is a harsh detergent

Hi, I used to have curly hair but after intense coloring treatment my hair have lost it’s shine and curls.
Can you please help me in restoring my hair back?
I have stopped coloring now.

If the damage is extreme, you may need to cut off all the damaged ends till you have your natural hair back. You can also check the tips mentioned here https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/colouring-curly-hair-treat-damage/

Hi Anjana,

Thank you for replying.
I have chopped off my damaged ends. Now i am looking for CG friendly products for reviving my hair.
Your comprehensive list of products is quite amazing but i am confused now!! i was using Tresemme Detox and Restore Shampoo & Conditioner earlier.

Have you tried The Moms Co. Natural Protein Shampoo & Conditioner? I have heard it is quite good.

Regards,
Keerti

Hey, can you please suggest a nourishing and moisturizing conditioner for after wash, my hair is extremely dry and thin, and tends to tangle alot and breakoff.

Brilliant list! I was at a standstill because buying curly products from the salon (that are usually north of 3000/-) wasn’t ideal for my budget.
Thanks so much for such a comprehensive and varied list. Lots of love

I am glad Meghna 🙂

Hi Anjana can you plz tell me whether WOW conditioner is good for dry hair. Mine is relaxed hair and now I stopped and it’s under transitioning. So Now im trying to use all SLS free shampoo and conditioners. If you can plz make a review about WOW skin science product
Thankyou

WOW conditioner has silicones, I am currently avoiding products with silicones

Hi Anjana, can you please review Park avenue beer shampoo..

Hey Sushmitha, I don’t review shampoos unless they have some speciality to them like being sulphate free or being good for clarifiying etc

Hey anjana! I am new to your blog n i really believe that you will help me out of my dry and frizzy hair. Its frustrating when you can’t style them and when your hair makes your looks👎.I am 23 year old please give me your advice of a combo of shampoo, conditioner and styling product of same brand under 500 available in india because I think using different brands at same time will harm my hairs on a long run, please help. I will be so greatful to you. N you are doing a great job.. God bless you and give you everything you want.

Hi Anjana, Can you please review the Arata line of products, that is recently becoming popular in the CG community? Thanks!!

Hi Anjana,ur tips r really very useful. I thought buying deva curl products but when I googled about deva curl products I saw a page in which so many of them commenting those products made their hair so greasy and caused hair fall. So I gave up the idea of buying it .https://community.sephora.com/t5/Best-Hair-Ever/DevaCurl-Issues/m-p/2411473 👈🏻This is the website which I saw . Does it really cause hair fall and dandruff problems?

Not at all

Hi you haven’t given any review for ogx curl shampoo I herd it’s good too for curly hair could you suggest any of those for 3a type curl. thankyou

That’s because I haven’t suggested any shampoo

Could you give me an idea which shampoo to use for 3a curl

Like mentioned in the post, use any shampoo. The other products determine how your hair’s going to look

You can add The Body Shop banana hair mask, it is CG friendly and more moisturizing than the rainforest range 🙂

Thanks for letting me know Neha 🙂

Hey anjana,
I have very dry curly hair n due to coloring i m experiencing alot of hairfall, with so many products in market its so confusing ,can u suggest me the best mask n shampoo for my hair !!

Hello from Singapore Anjana :),

Thank you for creating this very comprehensive diary. I’ve recently begun my venture into the CG world.

Could you please advise if the Alba Botanica Hawaiian Deep Conditioning Minute Mask Gardenia is CG friendly? https://www.iherb.com/pr/Alba-Botanica-Hawaiian-Deep-Conditioning-Minute-Mask-Gardenia-5-5-oz-156-g/58537

It appears to be so to me but would rather clarify to be safe. It also appears to be reasonably priced and havent had much luck finding cheaper products here in Sg.

Warm regards 🙂

I love the usage of “comprehensive diary” :):).
Yes it is

Many thanks for the quick response 🙂

Hi Anjana! I know you say you don’t make a big deal of which shampoo to use but I need some help. I’ve used 2 bottles of the WOW shampoo (the only moderately affordable and easily available sulphate free shampoo) but it just doesn’t seem to work for me. It makes my hair feel more dry. So I’ve thought of shifting to sulphate shampoos. But I still don’t want any silicone (neither in my shampoo nor conditioner.) Would you please recommend a sulphate shampoo with no silicone? Will using the pantene lively clean twice every week week be too harmful/drying since its a clarifying shampoo?

But i want sulphate shampoos without silicone. I’ve seen the sulphate free shampoo list already and can’t afford most ones on there. Can I use Pantene lively clean regularly, like everytime I shampoo or its harmful?

Yes you could if you dilute it enough

Hi, any CG friendly clarifying shampoo?

The whole idea of clarifying is to remove stuff that CG shampoos don’t remove – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/clarifying-curly-hair-what-when-and-how/

Hello again Anjana :),
Would you recommend this Matrix Biolage product as a deep conditioner?
https://www.amazon.in/Matrix-Bioloage-Source-Hydrating-Masque/dp/B0140RYB94

I just read that it may not be suitable for hair types 3A/3B which is what mine is and instead may be better suited for those with wavy hair. What are your thoughts?

These were just ok for my hair. Didn’t find them very hydrating. But worth a try

Hi :),

Can we use cantu Shea butter leave-in conditioning cream as deep conditioning cream?

Here is the link to make you understand the exact product. Which I am seeking for your suggestion

Hey! Check-out Cantu Deep Conditioner 340 gm on Snapdeal at https://m.snapdeal.com/product/cantu-deep-conditioner-340-gm/624850530657?utm_campaign=AppShare_productShare

Leave ins are not strong enough to deep condition your hair

As it stated that it is deep conditioning so I thought of checking with you. Thank you so much for your reply 🙂 thank you so much for beging so kind on updating our queries. I will send you my hair pics to you in few days. After following strict CG routine more than me my colleagues fell in love with my curles. Once again thank you so much dear.

I am glad to hear that 🙂

Hi,
Is there any keratin treatment available for curly hairs?
My hairs are frizzy and rough and m facing hairfall issues.

Keratin treatments from the salon damage hair. Check this instead https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/start-here-curly-hair/

Hi,

If I use my co wash conditioner as a leave in, will it damage my hair?

Also would the process include me applying conditioner to very wet hair and then not rinsing it off?

No it won’t.
Yes that’s correct

I’ve heard that even though v apply styling products and gel only on our hair and not on scalp .Atleast 5-10% of the products v apply somehow settles on the scalp which might block the pores of our scalp and cause hair fall on a long run.as people told me so I am confused whether to use my styling products or not but without my product my curls wouldn’t get good defined on the other hand .clarify me pls

For eg .When we sweat the atleat 2-5% of the products in our hair drips off and settles on the scalp

Hey can u suggest cg friendly shampoo for oily scalp n dry fine curly hair….i checker online n there r quite a few but can’t decide which one is better….it will be of great help

Hii Anjana ma’am .. can you please help me with suggestion about decreasing my volume .. i use dove shampoo .. cantu conditioner and cantu hair curl cream and loreal gel .. but still cannot overcome the volume .. can you please suggest where am i going wrong .. thankyou

What’s your curl type, coarseness and length? How much of each product do you use?

Hi , I have white hair n dandruff so, can u suggest me any good shampoo

I am using loreal Nova hair color so can u suggest me for coloured hair shampoo

“Colour safe” shampoos are not very different from normal shampoo formulations

Ok thank u

I have dandruff also so which products should I use?

Hey Anjana,
Lovely hair❤️

Devacurl one condition

Hey Anjana,
Lovely hair❤️
which is the highly recommended conditioner and ur most fav one??

Can you please suggest some cruelty free products ?

My hair is fine and wavy. I got frizz nd baby hair.
I oil my hair a night before shampooing.
Sampoo with wow acv shampoo once a week.
Condition with loreal smooth intense conditioner.
Have an acv rinse.
Then let it air dry.Use serum.
Use hair mask once in a 15 days.
Cant see my curls 😥
Frizz do come back the 3rd day as well.

I don’t recommend serums. A good gel is very essential. Please check this https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/beginner-friendly-simple-curly-hair-starter-kit/#comment-19271

Hey.. Can u recommend some curly products for colored hair? Also any gel that gives a wet look?

Hey
Does the customised shampoo from @joinfreewill https://joinfreewill.com/pages/welcome-back-page works for curly hair?

I have no idea what kind of ingredients they put into their products Latika

Hey
Does the customised shampoo conditioner and serum from @joinfreewill https://joinfreewill.com/pages/welcome-back-page works for curly hair?

Hi Anjana! I’m not in India, but the United States and I was wondering if you’ve ever heard of the brand: As I am? I use their cowash, curling jelly, and leave in conditioner and they are amazing! Do you happen to know if those are CG approves (I know the cowash is). Also I use the shea moisture masque that contains apple cider vinegar as a deep conditioner and regular conditioner. It seems to work amazingly, do you happen to know if that is CG approved as well? Thank you for all your help! Looking at your site has helped me so much in my journey💘

I have used their leave in and love it – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/as-i-am-leave-conditioner-review/
Please post the ingredients of the others but my gut feeling is they are CG friendly as well.

Hi there
My 20month old has got curly hair n its really very difficult to manage her hair coz i never had curly hair in my family. Moreover after my chemotherapy the new hair that growing is curly so now its really in a mess.Plz help me out

Hello Anjana and hello girls, I want to know how St botanica shampoos work? Does anyone have an idea?they show that they are paraban free and no sulphates. Any suggestions please? Thanks in advance

Sorry I haven’t used them

Hey,
The problem is I have chemically straightened my hair thrice within 4 years..and since I did not want long hair due to hair fall I have cut it short…I face greying, my hair looks dull and came across the concept of build up only recently.
I want to go back to my virgin hair and I do not know which products and routine to begin with. I do oil my hair and wash twice a week…but rest seems a big ?

Hey Anjana,

Can I use my wash conditioner as a leave in?

I have the TGIN triple moisture conditioner and the Jessicurl too shea conditioner After I am done washing, I use these as leave ins(separately, not both on the same wash day)
Also I refresh with these.. Do I need to use a different conditioner as a leave in?
I have been getting amazing results using these as leave ins but am concerned it should not harm hair in the long run.

Thanks!

Yes you absolutely can!

Hi Anjana
I used Enliven conditioner along with LÓreal Homme Strong Hold Gel. My curls definitely look more defined, however, the frizz doesn’t seem to go away. I t-shirt dry my hair. Is it because of the amount of product I applied or should I give it more time? Its been 2 washes so far.

Please let me know how I can go about in changing my routine.
Thank you for all your help!

It will get better with each wash day, nevertheless you could try increasing the quantity of products. Also check this https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/16-mistakes-might-making-curly-hair-routine/

Hi, thanks so much for this great list!! Do you know if any of the gels can be bought instore, rather than online? I’ll be travelling Rajasthan soon and won’t have an address to ship things to.

Enliven and Loreal maybe available – but very hard to find

Hi ,

I started using moroccan oil products, curl shampoo , curl conditinor , and curl cream . Can yu guide me how to use them so I can get best result .

Monika

Hi Anjana

Thanks for your detailed posts. Appreciate the effort!
I had a question regarding the linkage of the products to breakouts and acne. I get most of them near my hairline and cheek. Do you think these hair products might have something to do with them? I currently use almost the entire Boucleme range and love what it does to my hair. Your insights would be super helpful!

Best
D

Yes, that’s very likely. Try switching up products and see if that helps.

I have righteous roots rx hair oil. I bought this before I knew they had a prepoo oil. Can I still use the rx oil for prepoo? Will I still get the benefit of it?
Or along with prepoo, can I also use it to refresh my hair on non wash days?
Refresh meaning to keep it frizz free
Note: I have a type 2a wavy hair. 😀

Yes you can use it as prepoo, check this https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/righteous-roots-hair-rx-oil-review/
Refreshing wavy hair with an oil blend doesn’t sound like a good idea as it may weigh down your hair and cause it to look greasy

I have enjoyed reading your blog and I can’t wait to get started with the right routine and products. I can’t believe I have been doing it wrong this whole time. I have done a few of the steps of the routine and some point in my life but never as a routine or all together.

I am glad Samantha 🙂

Okay..hi there.
I have been going through curly hair blogs since a decade.. but trust me I just figured out what is right way for my hair today after seeing the comments below. But before I start I need your suggestion.
My hair is like beach wavy to curly(if it makes sense I explained well😣) it’s like really loose curls, not straight from the scalp but curls just below the neck… really loose curls. So use Pantene lively clean shampoo. Revlon flex conditioner. But the conditioner is making my hair rough and dry ( I think maybe because of protein sensitivity) and every time I end up using dove conditioner at the end. So today i just diluted my shampoo+Revlon conditioner and used dove conditioner at the end. Co washing only with Revlon conditioner making my hair frizzy. Haven’t tried enliven one(will be getting soon as soon as I complete Revlon)
My doubt is can I mix both clarifying shampoo and conditioner (mostly silicone free and sometimes any) to wash my hair?
I figured out to use clarifying shampoo , silicone free conditioner and ogx curl cream. I hope this works at least. and can you say I can use like this or not.
Or can I use general dove conditioner for Co washing and conditioning along with a clarifying shampoo ?
I know this sounds weird because I have written a lot..sorry.. But confused how my hair is behaving after all😣

Hi Anjana,
I’ve recently added Cantu curling cream to my routine and I totally love it. I wanted to add more Cantu products to my range. Wanted to check with you if you have tired their shampoo or conditioner and if its CG friendly and would you recommend those.
Thanks,

I had tried one of their CG conditioners long back and loved it

Hey, thanks so much for the video. I’ve been looking for an actual video with steps for quite some time now. I have hair thats comparatively long and reaches my buttocks. The natural curls don’t really hold tgroughout the length probably due to the weight. It’s straight on top and curly only in the lower half. Hence, Im thinking of adopting the CG method. Just one main question. I’ve always grown up oiling my hair before a wash. Is that against the CG routine? Because co-washing would NEVER take the oil out. Also the method you use of diluting shampoo and washing just once would never work to take the extra oil out. Please help:(

Nikita, you could use a sulphate free shampoo to get the oil out

Hi Anjana,

First of all, Thanks for this blog!
I have been following this from last one year.

My only concern is L’Oreal Paris Hair Expertise Smooth Intense Conditioner is out of stock everywhere(online and offline).
It suited my curly hair type, because of its thick consistency.

It’d be great if you could suggest some similar product in the same price range.

Envilen conditioner didn’t suit me since the consistency is watery.

Thanks Anjana!

I noticed that Loreal smooth intense conditioners are replaced by Loreal 6 oil nourish conditioners in the shelves.
The consistency of this conditioner is also thick.
It’d be great if you could let me know whether it’s CG friendly.
Many thanks in advance!

Please provide the ingredients list Jasneet

Ingredients : Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Esters, CI 19140, CI 14700, Coconut Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Olive Fruit Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Trideceth-6, Chlorhexidine Digluconate, Limonene, Camelina Sativa Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Alcohol, Linalool, Amodimethicone, Isopropyl Alcohol, Fragrance, Citric Acid, Cetrimonium Chloride, Sweet Almond Oil, Hexyl Cinnamal.

hi Anjana,

I discovered this cool tool to find out if a product is CG friendly or not!
http://www.isitcg.com/

Since Loreal 6 oil nourish conditioner contains Amodimethicone and Isopropyl Alcohol.
It seems this product is not CG friendly. 🙁
Please provide your comments on the same.

That’s correct Jasneet

It doesn’t list the full ingredients list Shefali

hi anjana !
can u pls suggest me a good mousse for my 2b high porosity hair. gel weighs down my hair.

Hey Komal, which gels have you used?

Hi thank you for all the information on your blog it is super helpful! Could you please do a review of the Delon range of conditioners ? Or please let me know how it fares as compared to Enliven?

I haven’t used them Susan

Thanks for the reply.

HI,
I am one of the person who don’t like
use chemicals and to much product on hair.
( dont get that much time also, once in week is fine, specilly sunday) and my hair is curly, frizzy. the problem is first day of my hair after wash very good, it gives really good look , but 2ed day is ok-ok. so I have to wash my hair every after one day.plz suggest some good product (reasonable or also that you think very good but expensive) or hair routine so I dont need to wash my hair alternate.FOR conditioning I use once in month curd hair mask.

Thanks

Is BBlunt intense moisture conditioner CG friendly and can I use it for co wash?
Thanks!

It is not, hence not very advisable for cowashing

Hi Anjana,

Would you suggest innersense or the devacurl products (shampoo, conditioner, leave-in and gel) for 2c/3a hair?

Thanks!

Devacurl 🙂

Hi,

I am going to start my journey should I go ahead and buy shampoo, conditioner, creme and gel from Arata to begin with?

Hey Anjana,

I love all of your blogs. I have more 2c and less 3a hair. I have been following CG method and struggling really hard for repairing and finding right method for styling my hair.
I’m from Nepal and it’s very to find right gel in market or online so, I have been using Set Wet Vertical hold Gel and I feel like this gel is making my hair dry and damaging. Is this gel CG Friendly ? Is it damaging my hair or I just need to deep condition ?

Can you post the ingredients please (as it varies between places)?

Hey Anjana! I just wanted to ask about how to sleep with curly hair that lets the curl pattern undisturbed.

Hi
I have medium length curly hair
to be precise 2-3 inch below the shoulder.
I had started using L’Oréal smooth intense Smoothing Conditioner but things didn’t go well with it. I thought I won’t be able to see the results in few washes so I continued using it for months and now I am left with super dry and frizzy hair.
Please help me out and suggest some products which will suit my hair type.

Hi
Based on the same link I choose l’oreal Smooth intense. But I don’t know where I am going wrong.
Could you please suggest something that can be done for damage?

Please elaborate on what the issue is and what your routine is like, what products you use

Hey what do you think about the WoW shampoo and conditioner , they look like they are in budget but at the same time CG friendly , do you think the wow conditioner can be used for cowashing ?

I’ve used the shampoo but not the conditioner https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/wow-anti-dandruff-shampoo-review/

Hey

I had my hair smoothened some time back. And the hair shedding has been really bad. I tried a few protein treatments like rice water and onion juice. And my hair fell out in clumps. There is a chance that I’m protein sensitive and low porosity hair type. Can you suggest products suitable for that?
I am really worried about the volume. Please help.

Harsha, protein sensitivity is not that. Check this https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/hairfall-causes-remedies/

Hi,
Can you please mention when should a serum be used? I ha few if them but your curly routines didn’t mention serum.
Thanks

I don’t recommend serums anymore Ak

Hi anjana sis

I bought products from the list u mentioned revlon conditioner , bblunt leave in, enliven hair gel.. Shld i get any other products sis.?

Hi Renuka, Please check this if you want my recommendations https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/beginner-friendly-simple-curly-hair-starter-kit/

Hi Anjana,
I’ve been loving your blog, and have recently started your methods and tips for my (I think) wavy hair. Though a lot of these products are either discontinued or massively differently priced -and also SOOoo many news products are now-a-days introduced in the market.
Would you be keen on updating/re-doing these list? Would really love if you could add in newer products like Arata, Mama Earth, newer curl creams etc in these lists.
Would love to know how many of those now make in this list and how 🙂

I need to do that, hopefully soon 😀 I didn’t like Mama Earth products too much and I haven’t tried Arata. I am not in India now and will try them when I get back 🙂

Hi, 😊

I’m in India traveling and my leave-in is ending. Do you know any store where I can get a product? I’m only two days in each city and I can not buy online😖

Thank you

Unfortunately there are no such stores in India where you can just walk in and buy curly hair products. Health & Glow and NewU may carry Giovanni

Hey Anjana
I bought the Matrix Biolage Smoothproof Smoothing Masque. Can I use this just like the Matrix Biolage Conditioner? I also have the Enliven Conditioner. When and how should I use the Masque?

Thanks for all your help. I love your blog and learn something new everyday. You are a blessing for curly girls in India

Lakshmi, You can use the masque as a regular conditioner or as a deep conditioner

Hi..

I have an ogx anti breakage serum… which step i need to apply in CGmethod.. very much confused

OGX serum is not CG friendly and I generally don’t recommend serums

Hi
My hair type is 2a/2b dry frizzy prone to dandruff. I’m planning to buy these
Enliven conditioner
Deep conditioning: body shop rain forest butter
Leave-in ogx curl defining cream
Can you please tell if these products weigh down my hair or are they good for wavy hair also
However I’m not sure not the shampoo. Can you suggest a mild one😊

Hi Anjana!I usually have my hair pulled up as pineapple bun when I am at home.but it makes me look weird .what other protective hairstyles could be used to protect our curls other than than a pony nd pineapple bun for long curly hair.

Anies, I also sometimes do a half pony to get the hair out of my face.

Hi anjana…i need help…wheenevr i use styling products…like gel or cream…i feel the hair feels really hard….it doesnt feel soft as it would without the styling cream….What am i doing wrong…i use very little quantity of gel though…

Tanushree, do you scrunch out the crunch like mentioned in this post https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/curly-hair-gels-everything-you-need-to-know/

Hey Anjana. Has the formulation for Matrix Biolage conditioner changed in india? They have amodimethicone mentioned on ingredient list on nykaa and big basket. Don’t know if it’s incorrect info or a change in formulation 🙁
Also, which among the Matrix biolage colorlast conditioner (or its other variants) and Enliven conditioner do you prefer? I have 2b/2c fine hair

Not sure of that Surbhi, best to check the list on the product as websites may not have updated lists.
Enliven would be better for 2b/2c hair

Thanks a lot. Will rebuy Enliven then.
I was planning to also get the Re’equil conditioner as a leave in, do you think it’d be too heavy for my hair type?

It’s worth a try 🙂

I noticed you did a gentle wash of your hair with a Dove product. Could you please specify the product details?

It was a shampoo lying around. Don’t even remember which it was Vaishnavi 😀 It’s a sulphate shampoo and had silicones, FYI

Hey Anjana,

I am continously having frizz inspite of using a serum! My current cg routine is cg friendly shampoo, cantu curling cream and then curling custard after my hair dries I use two drips of jojoba oil

Shona, What’s your curl type, coarseness and length? How much of each product do you use?
Also check this – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/16-mistakes-might-making-curly-hair-routine/

Hey Anjana,
Curl type: 2a -2b
Coarse: low porosity, medium thick
Length: above shoulder
I use a dollop of everything except the gel. I ensure the gel is applied on all the strands

Those products are too heavy for your hair type. Have you seen this Shona https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/beginner-friendly-simple-curly-hair-starter-kit/

Please help me out 😢🙏 suggest me some ways to get rid of my hairfall problem

Can you do a review on fix my curls products please?

I am back in the Netherlands Karishma, will try them on my next visit to India

Thank you dear. I read your blogs regularly and absolutely love them.🥰. Love you lot.

I am so glad to hear that, Karishma 🙂

Hi Anjana,
I love all your posts and reviews! I used to have better curls when I was living in places with humidity. But now I live in Bangalore and my curls are not forming the same shape anymore. Crown is always flat and frizzy. The outermost layer is almost straight and slightly shabby looking. I am not sure what is causing it. The hair that is under the top layer looks less damaged. I have tried many products, including Cantu curl activator leave-in. But it just made my crunchy a bit too crunchy and oily. I would like it to have a fluffy texture. My hair is thick and long. But I just never found anything product that would make my hair curly and fluffy. Do you have any suggestions?

Anu, what’s your current routine like and what styling products do you use?

hey anjana,i have been followijg your blog and videos for quite some time and all of your videos are about curly hair but i am having 2a/2b type of hair which is frizzy and dry which products should i use please suugest me.

Has any one used HYPE BODY caffeine conditioner? Anjana if you have used it please share the review about it. I just saw it in your updated list of conditioners and I got it but this seems like a new product.

I haven’t used it Sreeja, but a few readers had mentioned that they have

Curly hairs are never easy to manage, I have personally started using personalized hair care products to manage curly hair, products like, Bare Anatomy (https://bareanatomy.com/), Function of Beauty, Prose & Vedix provides these products and they behave amazingly with curly hairs.

Hey Anjana,
Which conditioners would you recommend for cowashing of wavy hair?
Also, since my hair is short and wavy which would be the most suitable gel that I can use for setting the waves?

Hey,
This article is kinda old so not sure if I will get a response but I will ask this anyway.

I have wavy hair and have lately been using the squish to condish technique from your blog. It works out great and does give me curls however my hair is still a little frizzy and the curls don’t hold after day 1.
I use moroccan oil after taking shower as a serum. Should I follow that up with a gel to hold the curls?

Yes Poornima, Gels are what give hold. You can check this out for recommendations – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/beginner-friendly-simple-curly-hair-starter-kit/

Hi is Pantene lively clean enough for shampoo or some additional shampoo is needed ?

Shivani, Pantene lively clean is a clarifying shampoo and best used once in a while. Look for gentler shampoos for regular cleansing.

Are the devacurl controversies true?Does it cause hairloss and damage! I just bought it (the ultra define gel )and here comes whole bunch you tubers against it, all at the time which is weird. How come all face the same problem in the same period and exposing that out at the same time.I am confused whether to use it or not.Anjana can u pls share your experience on it .

This breaks the trust of using all my other products in Cantu range 🙁.

Hi Annie, I cannot comment on the experience of others. I haven’t faced any issue. So I am suggesting readers to make a personal informed choice themselves.

Tnks for the response

Is there a reason you have left out soultree products cause they were included in your prior list
I do remember taking a snap shot

Hi Dharani, I remember a few readers pointing something about Soul Tree products, but honestly I don’t remember what exactly it was 🙁

Hey, doesn’t Lotus Herbals Soyasmooth Protein Creme Deep Conditioner contain parabens?

Hi Srishti, this is not a paraben free list. Please find more explanation on parabens (point 17) here – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/curly-hair-faq/

Hey, I started my CG journey almost an year back and your blog has been very helpful to me 🙂 Thanks a lot.
but, from 6 months I’m experiencing a lot of hairfall. My hair volume is reduced to half 🙁
I was thinking is it because of the products used? Do you have any solution for it? Thank you 🙂
And, one more, how is WOW conditioner?

Please check this Vasavi https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/hairfall-causes-remedies/
And I haven’t tried WOW conditioners

Hey Anjana! What do you think of herbal essences shampoos and conditioner? Also do you know anything about herbal essences totally twisted curl scrunching gel? Love your blog

Hi Adithi, most of them aren’t CG friendly and so I haven’t used many

Hey!
My hair are 2A wavy type, coarse hair with meduim porosity. Dry & frizzy. too much volume.
I am planning to buy Giovanni TTT shampoo and conditioner.
Is it necessary to buy leave-in, can i just leave the conditioner itself?
and can you suggest me a deep moisture mask as my hair are very dry and frizzy. (probably very less protien)

Yes you can use the conditioner as leave in.
https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/deep-conditioning-curly-hair/

Hi Anjana. I’ve been following the cg method (not so strict) for about 2 years now. In the beginning of the cg journey I used Maui moisture conditioner which I got from US (best hair days ever). Now that I’ve emptied it, I tried vilvah conditioner but it was too light for my hair. Then I tried more thicker consistency Shea moisture conditioner but it was too heavy and left residue. I’ve been oiling my hair regularly but recently it started to make my hair more frizzy. I’m a little lost as to what my hair needs. I prefer having a simple routine with minimal products – shampoo, conditioner and flaxseed gel. I checked the list of conditioners but don’t know the consistency of the conditioners. Do you have any recommendations for a conditioner which absorbs easily but still provides curl definition and hold?

Hey Anjana, I’d like to make a suggestion… Could you add Soultree’s revitalising shampoo, anti dandruff shampoo and Ancient living’s shampoos to the list…? (Soultree is certified natural by BDIH Germany) All of them fit the exact cg friendly shampoo requirements… Like they don’t even contain the “use with caution” sodium lauryl sarcosinate and literally *only* contain the surfactants approved by curlsbot and isitcg… and are budget friendly (lemme tell you that I almost cried tears of joy finding these cg friendly products)

Thanks for the suggestions Asana 🙂 I’ve added them to the list

Hi Anjana,
I wanted to know your thoughts on fix my curls brand.

Hi Lara, I haven’t used them but some readers have given good feedback

Hi Anjana, Can you please suggest a protein free deep conditioning mask which I can use after a protein treatment? My budget is within 1000 bucks. Currently I am using st. Botanica argan mask for deep conditioning. Will it serve the purpose?

Hi Help me out please?
I’m a type 2c-3a CG. My hair is extremely dry and frizzy. Now I’ve started maintaining it. I use Loreal Professional Serie expert shampoo and conditioner (only thing that prevents hairfall for me) and MoroccanOil Curl defining cream. Looking to buy a leave-in conditioner and a Curl gel based on your recommendations.
For leave in, which is your order of preference for me:
1. Ashba leave in for curly hair
2. Cantu shea butter lotion
3. As I am leave in conditioner
Also have you tried this: https://www.target.com/p/curls-blueberry-bliss-reparative-leave-in-conditioner-8-fl-oz/-/A-49118243?clkid=d3fe7076Nff2d11ea8b8d42010a246309&lnm=81938&afid=MagicLinks&ref=tgt_adv_xasd0002

For gels, what would you recommend me (not very particular about hold, but want soft frizz free hair)? Also have you tried https://www.ecoslay.com/collections/stylers/products/orange-marmalade
Have read a lot about these too.

Thanks!

Hi Akanksha, please check this for my recommendations – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/beginner-friendly-simple-curly-hair-starter-kit/

Hi Anjana. I have extremely thick curly hair which was very hard to manage. So I moved to a really short crew cut. Your blog’s now inspire me to grow my hair out again with hope that I will be manage it better. But the growing out phase is very different. I look like Marge simpson. Do you have any recommendations or styles that can help me?

** Couldnt find where I posted before

Hi Preethi, scarves and large hairbands may help

Hi Anjana, Please suggest CG friendly protein free shampoo’s. Thank you <3

Check this Shikha Soul tree

Hi from the USA! I love your blog! You are so informative and just amazing! My hair is very much like yours although post partum it is leaning towards frizz. I’m trying to bring back the curl shape any suggestions? Also do you still use the Deva Curl Gel in your routine given the lawsuit and complaints they got last year/year before? Thank you,Becca!

Hi Becca, it may take some time post partum to get the right results. I don’t use Devacurl currently as I am experimenting with some other products – it’s got nothing to do with the lawsuit 🙂

When I read your blog intro first time in March during the lockdown, I was like thts me, I have been hating my hair all my life.. I have almost same texture hair like yours (Thanks to Kerala genes 😝),and now after following CGM I have started loving them.

I have been doing chemical straightening processes from last 5 or 6 yrs and 2019 June I was like no not anymore I am done let the hair come out in whatever way it does. That phase was very weird actually. Then I saw your blog after 8-9 months. I got a haircut 💇‍♀️. Leaving only my new growth and started working on them and its not yet so perfect but I am loving my hair like never before. Thank you Anjana for writing this blog.

I am so so glad to hear that, Arunima!

Hey Anjana,

Many CG bloggers and youtube influencers suggest WOW shampoo and conditioners but you never mention them in your list ? What is the reason ? You haven’t tried them or they aren’t fully CG friendly ? Please reply.

Hi Shruthi, this post does have 1 WOW product, and that’s the only one I’ve used

Hi!
Can you add list of silicone free serums to this list? It’ll be helpful for kids who don’t have patience for the entire cg way. Also for places which have high humidity.
Thanks! Warm regards

There are no CG friendly serums that I know of, Shridevi

Will vilvaha got milk shampoo and conditioner work for low porosity hair ?

Thank you Anjana for the beautiful guideline. I am planning to take care of my curls. I’m planning to buy Mama Earth product for a co-wash.

Hey,
I was wondering if you know a little about MamaEarth Conditioners and whether they are good for a CG routine?
Ingredients in Detangle conditioner: Cocoa, Shea Butter, Amla extract, Fenugreek extract, Veg Glycerine, Potassium Sorbate, Tea Tree Oil, Argan Oil, Milk Protein, Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol
Would any conditioner also work as a leave in or only specific conditioners?

Hi Ipshita, it is missing a cationic surfactant so it may not have slip – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/ingredients-look-conditioner/
Yes any conditioner can be used as a leave in if you like it as a regular conditioner

Hey, thank you so much, also I left this question on your routine post, but I’ll post it here too:
A query regarding gel, is it helpful in the process of repairing curly hair? Or is it only for styling? Can I skip it for a while, as I am at home and do not find it necessary to style my hair, can I just do a routine of oil–>shampoo–>conditioner–>leave-in? And deep conditioning with natural ingredients occasionally.
I’m a little concerned about applying products to my hair right now as it’s a little damaged and I want to just take care of it and work on reparation while I’m at home

Yes Ipshita, gel is only for styling. You can skip it at home.

Hi Anjana, so I started using the Happy Heads Shampoo by Mama Earth along with the no tangles conditioner, and while the conditioner is great because it keeps my hair soft and helps with detangling and frizz, I haven’t been able to get the shampoo to lather at all which leaves my hair oily when i use the slightest bit of leave in or any product at all. Can you please help with this?

Hi Ipshita, if a product doesn’t work for you, try another one

Hey,
Do you have any posts about products for her high porosity curls ?
Or could you point out any other resources i could follow ?
Thqnk you

Hey,
I am following the CG method for the last 3 months. My hair is already super dry and frizzy. After using gel for 3 months, I realized that my hair is a bit more dry than usual. I use arata gel. Could you please help me with what should I do now? Which affordable product should I use so that I can overcome my hair dryness problem with cg method?

Hi Tanvi, do you use a leave in before gel?

Hi Anjana, I’ve on this journey since a month now. I have long 3a curly hair. I do shampoo, condition, leave in and gel. But still my curls don’t get enough definition. My curls are loose and thin. How can I get thick curls.

Hey Anjana- does CGM work on henna treated hair?

Yes, Arathi. But henna does loosen curls so do keep that in mind.

Hello Anjana,

Hello Anjana chechi,
my hair is extremely dry and mu split ends are growing amazingg.!! 🙁 I would like to change my shampoo I have gone through your blog chechi, and the shampoo suggested by you, have SLS. Is that safe, for an example plum, moms & co has SLS is that safe??

Hi Kavitha, Why do you say Plum amd Mom’s Co have SLS? I don’t see it.

Hello, I was wondering if you had tried out any new hair masks and which one would you recommend.
Thankyou 🙂

Very helpful…Thank you

I am glad, Archana 🙂
