Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-in Detangler Review

I love Kinky Curly Curling Custard and this is one of their other really popular products. Like many cult favourites in the curly world, people either love it or hate it!

Ingredient Analysis:

List on bottle  – Organic mango extract, organic slipper elm, organic marshmallow root, organic lemongrass, cetyl alcohol, behentrimonium methosulfate, citric acid, phenoxyethanol and natural fragrance.

Water or water based solvents should be a major constituent, but that is missing from the list. I highly doubt that this is the full ingredients list. Also don’t go by the term “natural” fragrance. Fragrance is an umbrella term used to include just about any ingredient.
Of what is stated, the ingredients look quite good for a leave in, including a cationic surfactant and a fatty alcohol. For what it is worth, I usually get very put off by synthetic fragrances in products, but this smells very herbal and “natural” to me (I can only guess). I am putting this out because many readers had asked me what I thought about this product (because there has been a surge of bloggers coming out with the “Think Dirty” app ratings). This one has got a red rating of 8 because they don’t disclose what the fragrance is truly made up of.
If or not you want to avoid “fragrances” is purely a personal choice. I believe that reviews should help you decide what you want, not decide them for you 🙂

+ I am so surprised that this is also intended for use by highly textured hair because it is such a super lightweight and non-greasy leave in. It never weighs my hair down(my hair gets weighed down quite easily). Even if I go overboard, my hair becomes a bit greasy and sticky but never weighed down.
+ It’s got really good slip so for those of you who detangle hair after washing and conditioning, this works great. In fact it is marketed as a detangler.
+ Provides sufficient moisturization for curls
+ Great for leave-in only method for dry climates – Curly Hair Care : Products to Use According to the Weather

– Too light weight for extremely dry hair

In short: I absolutely love Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-in Detangler. It was my favourite leave-in in the Netherlands. It is a moisturizing leave in that doesn’t weigh down hair.
