Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel Review

  • October 25, 2018

Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel is a highly raved gel in the curl community and I got a chance to try it out some months ago.

Description by Eco Styler: Eco Styler Olive Oil styling gel is made with 100% pure olive oil. Olive oil helps the scalp naturally regulate its moisturizing system. It attracts moisture to the scalp and holds it in while also taming frizz. Like all our styling gels, its weightless and will leave your hair with a healthy shine & superior hold. Max hold 10/10.

Price: Around 2000INR. You can buy it here (India) or here (US) -#CommissionsEarned

Ingredient Analysis:

  • Water
  • Carbopol 940 – Carbomer to thicken gels
  • Glycerin
  • Dissolvine Na-X – Chelating agent
  • Glycosperse L-20 – Emulsifier
  • Fragrance (Parfum)
  • Suttocide A – Preservative
  • TEA – pH adjsuter
  • PVP K-90 – Film Forming polymer
  • Aquapro II WP – (insufficient information)
  • Olive Oil
  • FD&C Yellow #5 – Colour

On first look it looks great because it is CG friendly (no silicones, sulphates or drying alcohol). But in reality it isn’t because it doesnt have any ingredients that make a good curl gel – Ingredients to Look for in a Hair Gel
It is not high in film forming polymers. And if you read the Description by Eco on top, it’s funny now. “made with 100% pure olive oil” – just that there is negligible quanitty of olive oil in this. “Max hold 10/10” – no hold giving polymers that are high on the list.

CG Friendly: Yes
Texture: Thick, slightly sticky
Smell: Quite a cheap drugstore-y smell
Packaging: Plastic tub

Performance:

Here’s how to apply curly hair gel – Curly hair gels : Everything you need to know

– Doesn’t form a cast
– Doesn’t provide any hold

+ But a thing I noticed in spite of all the negatives discussed till now is that because of being so low in polymers, it’s great for refreshing using the 1st method mentioned here, because it doesn’t dry out hair. It acts almost like aloe vera gel which doesnt have any hold too.

In short: I wouldn’t buy this gel again because of it’s lack lustre ingredients list which is low in film forming polymers.

Have you used Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel? How do you like it?

Blog Comments

It is a discontinued product and I don’t want to try the last few bottles left if I cannot buy more of it (in case I like it :D)

This gel is amazing! Best gel I’ve ever used.

Works well for me. But the odor could be better.

Hey. The ecostyler flaxseed gel is selling on amazon for 55p for 8oz. Is it authentic?

55p? Always check for seller rating and reviews before buying

Hi Anjana,

Stumbled across your blog this past weekend and have spent about 60% of the weekend reading your content – really great stuff for a beginner exploring the CG journey and what it would entail! Thank you.

A couple of products that I have read about in other blogs are Ashba Leave-in Conditioner and Ashba Gel. Will you be reviewing either of these soon…?

Cheers,
B

I am so glad to hear that, B!
I haven’t had a chance to use Asha’s products yet. Will review them when I try them 🙂
