Devacurl is a brand that has consistently made me happy. After trying out different leave ins and creams, but always sticking with a cheap & basic silicone free conditioner for years, I decided to splurge on a good conditioner. And now, there’s no looking back.

Common Review
Ingredients: The 1st 6 ingredients are EXACTLY the same. What makes the Delight version better for wavier hair is the lack of a heavy oil like Olive, presence of small quantities of protein and the chia- flaxseed blend which may help in wave enhancement. It is exactly what it says it is, lightweight moisture that won’t weigh your waves down. The Original version has an additional cationic ingredient so it’s heavier and of course, the presence of olive oil makes it richer than the Delight version. But don’t mistake it for a heavy conditioner. The oil is very less in quantity and just enough to provide lightweight daily moisture.
CG Friendly: Yes
Texture: Both are creamy, velvet-y conditioners and provide decent to good slip.
Smell: Original smells of Lemongrass and Delight has a citrus floral smell.
Packaging: Sturdy plastic bottle with a press up-down cap. The bigger ones come in a pump bottle. I buy the pump bottles now.
Performance:
+ Both do a quite good job in detangling hair
+ Both can be left in as leave in conditioners and work absolutely great for squish to condish.
+ The Delight one is enough if you have wavy hair or if you are looking for mega volume because it will not at all weigh down your hair or if you already have quite healthy/hydrated hair to begin with.
+ The Original one is the one that suits almost everyone. It gives adequate moisture (not super moisture) yet doesn’t weigh down hair. I love this one more for those very reasons.
– I don’t have anything bad to say about either of the conditioners, but just for the sake of nit picking, I’d wish for some more slip
In short: Like I mentioned in the introduction, I’ve tried a number of leave ins and creams over the years, but always used to stick with a cheap & basic silicone free conditioner because I always thought there was no point in paying so much for products that will be rinsed off. Having tried the Devacurl conditioner, my view has changed, because now, not only do I use this as a leave in, but I also realized that I don’t need a curl cream after this.

Hey Anjana,
Nice review. Just started using this product and I agree with your comments. This guy at the devacurl salon asked me to use it with the styling cream instead of the hair gel, and that combination seems to work better. Add the curl plumper for
extra oompf.

Hi Anjana I’ve finally started my curly hair journey and had the big chop. I was going to purchase the devacurl products but there are so many and it’s confusing. What would be your devacurl musthaves for a starter like me with 3B and low porosity shoulder length hair?
Also Devacurl have quite a few spray gel/foam they all sound similar but not sure which one should be used for what purpose. I’m looking for soft bouncy curls so would be great if you can provide some insight.
Thanks
Ranjani

Hi Anjana,
I have been an ardent follower of your blog and my curls have been Amazing following your routine. I don’t stick with a specific product though, i thought of purchasing devacurl. It looks like there is an ongoing lawsuit of the damage it does to the curls. Do you still recommend this one? Please let me know your thoughts

Hi Ranjani, I cannot comment on the experience of others. I haven’t faced any issue and thus still recommend them. So I am suggesting readers to make a personal informed choice themselves.

pls pls pls do NOT use this product. It will ruin your hair completely. Read about the experiences of people. There are more than 50k that have suffered severe hair loss, headaches, dandruff, scalp burns, irritation etc due to these products. There is a lawsuit pending as well. There are so many better products out there which will truly help your curls. DO NOT USE THIS.
