  • In Conversation with Pallavi Juneja (The Curious Jalebi)

Let’s hit it up with Pallavi, the owner of luscious springy curls ( I am a HUGE fan of her hair! ) and also of The Curious Jalebi and try to get her to spill some secrets to her killer curls!

Tell us about how you started your natural hair journey – when did you embrace your curls?
I found a hair routine video by The Girl With Curves when i was in college. I was fascinated when she said she didn’t comb her curls dry. She also said she manages to get a hair spa once every month. I remember how excited I was; my heart was racing! 😀 To test it out, I went for a hair spa, my first ever & my curls transformed because they had never been conditioned like that in my life! The lady at the salon also combed my curls after applying the hair spa for uniform distribution of the product, which I learnt is the trick.  Several YouTube videos by natural hair bloggers later, my curls became healthy, shiny & bouncy. I started loving my hair & began to receive compliments from my friends & peers instead of the usual teasing remarks.
Name 5 inexpensive products you easily get in India that are great for curly hair

Your go-to curly hair routine when you want flawless curls
Any CG Approved shampoo I have lying around (currently mixing WOW ACV Shampoo for scalp & Inatur Monoi Oil Shampoo for the remaining length), InnisFree Camellia Essential Conditioner to wash.  To style ’em I make this cocktail : Miss Jessie leave in condish + Cantu Curl Activator & Eco styler gel. I use a denman brush to get super defined ringlets.

The most important part of a curly hair routine is?
Not combing your curls dry – even if you’re combing after oiling, don’t skip combing after conditioner & styling products, either with fingers or a comb.
Air dry or diffuse?
Diffuse. I LOVE the volume diffusing gives. Everything about diffusing curly hair – What, Why, How

How often do you wash your hair in a week – does the hair texture decide how long your curls last?
I wash my hair twice in a week. Since my curl texture is a mix of 3 A & B, they last well for 3-4  days before I inevitably wrap them in a bun. I also travel by public transport everyday & go to the gym in the mornings so that greatly reduces how fresh they look.
What is your styling technique?
I smooth on the leave in + curl cream + gel separately on to the length of my hair & use my fingers to rake it in. I then use my trusty denman brush & comb through, shaking the sections until I see them clump. Use a t shirt to plop & then diffuse on cold or low heat.
When did you start the blog & what was the first post about?
I started on June 4, 2016 & the first post was – 10 Things To Remember About Curly Hair!

Who are your favourite curly hair bloggers with your curl type?
My favorites don’t have my curl type – theirs are much curlier! 😀
HiF3licia, Bianca Renee, Jewellianna Palencia, Luhsetty, Right Ringlets & Honest Liz are a few of my favorites (besides you ;P )
