Are you still recommending devacurl ? There was quite a controversy and people posted so much going wrong with their hair. I am a newbie so not sure if it was for all products or just a few.

Hi Prachee, I cannot comment on the experience of others. I haven’t faced any issue and thus still recommend them. So I am suggesting readers to make a personal informed choice themselves.

Hi Anjana,
Was wondering how to get rid of product build up on scalp?
I recently tried baking soda, apple cider vinegar wash but it didn’t work.
Thank you

Yes is it fine to apply conditioner as a creme again after using it as a leave in?
Anjana
June 17, 2020 at 2:38 pm
Applying conditioner itself as leave in OR cream serves the same purpose. Not sure what you mean by using it again after once using it as a leave in already.

Hi, I liked your blog, it’s very informative. I am thinking of starting the routine for beginners, I am 2c and 3a. I had done cysteine treatment in October 2019 which is almost worn off but I am not sure if I should use a clarifying shampoo once before I start the routine? Also, I will soon start my swimming classes, I was wondering if you could help me with a regime if I’m swimming on alternate days?
Anjana
June 29, 2020 at 12:43 pm
It’s good to start by clarifying Krutika. https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/clarifying-curly-hair-what-when-and-how/ – there’s a note to swimmers at the end of this post

Thank you very much for your response, it’s very helpful. However, with respect to swimming, I had read your note before and I wanted to know what to do post-swimming, like do I have to do the whole routine of washing my hair with shampoo, followed by conditioner and gel everytime after swimming?
Anjana
June 30, 2020 at 4:36 pm
Hi Krutika, you could do that, [or only shampoo and condition if you don’t want defined curls the next day :)]

Hi… Any suggestions for hair care for hard water areas , esp when I have curly /wavey and rough textured hair.
Also scrunching cream and leave in conditioner are they same or they have different use.
What should be used.
I am between 2a and 2c
Anjana
June 30, 2020 at 4:46 pm
1. Getting a shower filter is the best option Richa.
2. Yes they are the same.

I’m very confused regarding buying two products namely ashba leave in conditioner and fix my curls leave in cream. I wanted to know if they both serve the same purpose and since theyre both a little expensive for me thought it would be great consulting you first. Which one should I buy?
Anjana
July 2, 2020 at 3:26 pm
Dhanashree, it does look like they serve the same purpose. As I haven’t used either, I can’t recommend one over the other 🙂

Would u suggest home made flaxseed gel…..does it really work as efficiently as the gel products that u have mentioned…..?
Anjana
July 17, 2020 at 3:35 pm
Hi Vishnu, it doesn’t have as much hold as the store bought gels but is a good gel to begin with especially if you are tight on budget.

Hello, first of all thanks for such a great informative post.
My query is, I am 2c/3a, with coarse hair, so instead of the mama earth shampoo that you suggested can I use Himalayas protein/anti dandruff shampoo?

You can use any shampoo you like Meghna. In fact you can use other products too. These are just my suggestions 🙂

Hi Anjana, Im a huge fan and constantly follow your reviews and guidance on curly hair. Thanks to you i found love for my curls at the age of 44! Never late though. After trials and errors and thanks to you I have found products to tame my hair. However i wanted your opinion on hair conditioners of the Kama Ayurveda brand. Would you mind sharing your review on them. Thank you and keep it curly.❤️

Hi there,
I have just begun with the CG routine; am using the Mama Earth shampoo and Requil hair conditioner.
My hair is wavy (coarse 2b type); my waves stand well until my hair dries.
And then it is back to frizzy. I did try using Requil as a leave-in followed by the loreal strong hold gel as well. But hair becomes v dry (straw like).
Any tips to solve this?

Hi Anjana,
I’ts been just 3 months into the CG routine. Currently using the Mama Earth/Fix My curls shampoo and Fix my curls conditioner & leave-in. Since the Fix my curl gel doesnt give me a strong hold, I mix it with homemade flax gel for a decent hold.
My hair is 2c-3a. The curls are well formed until the wash & thereafter when I try styling them, they start slpitting up during scrunching which also gives me wet frizz. This makes the whole clump frizzier when it dries.
I have tried praying hands as well but as i have very fine hair, it kind of peeks out of the clump.
Do let me know if you can help. Thanks in advance 🙂

Is your hair dripping wet when you style it?
What’s your curl coarseness and length?
How much of each product do you use?
Nicole
August 20, 2020 at 10:54 am
Yes its dripping wet. I have fine hair & have tried experimenting with the amont of leave in & gel. The curls do form but starts de-clumping as it starts drying. Tried wet plopping too.

I have coarse 2b curls. Should I use a leave in conditioner and gel everytime I wash my hair?
And if I comb my hair and braid it, will I loose my curls?

Hi Anjana, your blogs are incredibly helpful. I have thin 2b/2c hair. It’s frizzy, both wet and dry frizz, and it does get weighed down by products easily, like co washing with Enliven conditioner also makes it look limp, and if I don’t apply anything, the hair looks very dry also. Do you think I need deep conditioner and/or protein treatment? I haven’t tried either yet. Thanks in advance

Skip cowashing, use a CG shampoo and a small quantity of a lightweight leave in

Hi Anjana,
I wanted some gel recommendations (preferable budget-friendly) with a strong-ish hold. I’ve tried using the Fix my Curls gel, but it doesn’t provide a lot of definition and leaves my hair kind of dry. the two gel recommendations here (Schwarzkopf Taft Marathon Looks and L’Oréal Homme Strong Hold Gel 6) are both out of stock. Any other gel you can recommend?
I have coarse, high porosity hair and my curl pattern varies between 2C and 3A.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,
I have been on cgm for 2 years now, my hair had a really good transformation, but lately I’m experiencing breakage and and cracks if I may say in my hair strands on top of my head which when inspected tend to break at that point, the curls are stretched as well
Can you please help me with this issue.
I’m a 2b (crown),2c and 3a type (nape of neck), fine low porosity hair.
And I’m using Giovanni smooth as silk shampoo and shea moisture manuka honey conditioner along with arata hair creme and gel
I’m a fan of hard cast gels, would want recommendations on that as well.
Thank you.
