BBlunt Gel Oh! Natural Hold Gel Review

  • October 4, 2016

If you have been reading my posts regularly you would know that I am currently obsessed with hair gels. After DevaCurl Ultra Defining Gel and Schwarzkopf Taft Marathon Gel, I am going to review BBlunt Gel Oh! Natural Hold Gel which is an Indian product (and so it excites me a lot; More so because my last 2 haircuts were at BBlunt salon :))
Description by BBlunt: The perfect product for those who shy away from styling products. This gel will help change your mind and your hair by giving it great gloss, natural fullness & just the right amount of hold, without weighing it down. Specially created for Indian hair.

Price: 450 INR for 150 ml and 175 INR for 50 ml. You can buy it here, here or here.

Ingredient Analysis:
Water, Glycerin – Humectant, Glyceryl Polyacrylate – Film former, PEG-8, Polysorbate 20, Triethanol amine – Emulsifiers, PVP, Acrylates Crosspolymer-3 – Polymers, Preservatives, Colour and Fragrance

BBlunt Gel Oh! Natural Hold Gel has got great film forming polymers. It is also Sulfate, Paraben, Silicone, Paraffin, Mineral Oil, and Alcohol free. But there are no botanical ingredients or emollients to soften and moisturize hair.

CG Friendly: Yes
Texture: I love the texture of BBlunt Gel Oh! Natural Hold Gel. It is almost watery and very runny which makes it perfect for refreshing day 2 and 3 curls especially, because you don’t want thick products. The gel is non-sticky and light and totally unlike regular drugstore gels.
Smell: It’s got an unusual smell. Almost herbal or so.
Packaging: The big bottle is shaped so funkily(is that even a word?)! The travel size is great for trials or for carrying along.

Performance:
Here’s how to apply curly hair gel – Curly hair gels: Everything you need to know
+ Forms a very light gel cast that protects and holds curls while it is drying
+ Prevents frizz
+ As mentioned in their name, the gel is a very natural hold gel which gives no crunchy feeling whatsoever
+ Leaves no residues or flakes
– I would have liked a stronger gel cast
– I would have loved for it to have some botanical ingredients also

In short: Kudos to BBlunt for creating a hair gel suited for Indian climate. BBlunt Gel Oh! Natural Hold Gel is a very light weight hair gel and does a decent job of providing hold.

I have been trying bblunt products lately and they work great on my hair. U should try their anti frizz hair lotion. Worked wonders on my super frizzy hair

Will do Tanima!

Hi Anjana!!
Came across your blog while browsing for hair styling gels and cannot stress enough how helpful your posts have been. I have naturally curly hair which I have subjected to chemical rebonding a couple of times. I had reached that hideous half straight and half curly hair stage after one and a half years from the last treatment, and this is when I decided to embrace my curly hair for good. I have chopped of my hair to quite small and is waiting for it to grow into a long luscious glory!
Sorry for the long intro, but I have a question. I have heard that repeatedly applying styling products, especially gels, tend to make hair brittle resulting in hairfall. Is this true? And if I am to apply them daily, what care regimen should I follow?

So great to hear about your journey! About your concern, read this – Do hair products cause hair loss?. Also avoid alcohol free gels and you can use them everyday!

Does it make your hair stiff on 2nd day? What about hold? Is hold same as flex seed gel? For how long it last for you? And how much quantity you used?

No gels make my hair stiff on day 2 because I always scrunch out the crunch – Curly hair gels – Everything you need to know
It is a very light hold gel. I use around a lime sized amount.

Hi anjana, can you suggest which products ( leave in and gel) would be good for hot and humid weather?

Can i use this gel after shampooing and conditioning the hair? Or do i have to apply any curl cream or a leave in conditioner before it? Also…does it decrease volume to give a wet hair look?

Depends on your hair type. If it needs moisture, you can apply a leave in before gel – that’s the case with all gels not just this one.
This gel gives more of a natural hold than a strong hold.
