As I Am Leave In Conditioner is a very popular product in the curl community. I just had to try it!
Description by As I Am: A great leave-in is a vital first step in styling. Smooth it on after cleansing and conditioning. Your finished style will be softer shinier and more manageable. This natural wonder keeps tangles away and provides a great foundation for natural styling.
Price: Around 1500 INR. You can buy it here (India) or here (US) -#CommissionsEarned
Ingredient Analysis:
The first five ingredients ( Read the Ingredients List, Not the Product Claims ) are Water, Cetearyl Alcohol and Cetyl Alcohol(good moisturizing alcohols), coconut powder (since this is not the pure oil, and rather the powder form of the flesh, there is a chance it contains hydrolyzed proteins which may not suit protein sensitive hair), amla/ Indian gooseberry powder and beetroot extract.
There are other extracts that are really low in concentration since they are towards the end of the list.
CG Friendly: Yes
Texture: Velvety smooth semi-runny fluid
Smell: AAAAHHH! I love the smell of this one. Tropical coconut-y smell
Packaging: Sturdy plastic bottle with a press cap which makes it slightly hard to get the product out. I always unscrew the cap.
Performance:
This is how I apply As I Am Leave In Conditioner – How to apply products and scrunch curly hair
+ Oh my god the slip of this one is the best ever! So slippery and juicy! I don’t detangle after my conditioning but for those who do, this is fabulous!
+ Creates an ultra-soft and smooth layer over the hair that controls frizz and helps the cuticles lay flat
+ Very lightweight and non-greasy, considering my hair gets weighed down quite easily
+ Moisturizes very well
– Would have loved a bit more shine from this product
In short: I absolutely love As I Am Leave In Conditioner. I think along with Cantu Shea Butter Conditioning Creamy Hair Lotion, this is becoming my holy grail. It is a moisturizing leave in that doesn’t weigh down hair.

Hey thanks so much for reviewing this. I ended up getting Cantu curl activator because of your review and like it so far. I hope you do more curl drugstore products review in the future. I will try this next. Btw do you use this leave in with gel or by itself?

Hey Jessica, you can either let them be as such. Or go for ammonia free semi permanent hair dyes if you want to cover them

Hey! Do you think this product will be suitable for 2c but extremely fine (like baby hair fine!) wavy/curly hair? PS: My scalp is on the greasier side.

I guess so Sangeetha, but I am not 100% sure. It’s worth a try though, because this is very lightweight. Another leave in that I am quite sure will suit you is Devacurl B’Leave in which I just reviewed – Devacurl B′Leave-In Review

Thank you.
I just find it difficult to find products for my hair. According to all hair type charts, 2c is relatively coarse hair. But in my case its very fine, and coupled with a greasy scalp, I find it difficult to get products to enhance my waves/curls as they usually leave my hair limp. Will check out Devacurl next time.

So I picked up the Devacurl Bleave in. I really like it. Its really lightweight and suits my hair type. I use Kinky Curly after wash (surprising coz i always thought kinky curly is for way curlier hair, but it does wonders to my hair) and use Devacurl Bleave in to refresh. But am slowly discovering that curl creams don’t work for my hair type, but all types of gels do!

Yes Sangeetha, gels are heaven sent for not-so-curly hair ! 🙂

Hey Anjana! I guess I’m burdening you with review requests now 🙂
Can you review As I Am’s Cowash conditioner too? The ingredient list seems amazing.

Hey Anjana! As a newcomer to CGM, I’ve been using the squish to condish and gel for my routine and while it works okay, my hair becomes extremely dry and starts to lose definition on second day. I thought of adding a leave-in/cream and purchased the Cantu Curl Activator Cream but it makes my hair stringy. I’ve been reading a lot about hair porosity and I think I have high porosity and humectants can be bad for my texture. I live in a very hot and dry place. Do you have any recommendations for a leave-in for my hair type (2c/3a, high porosity, fine hair). I was looking into As I am (has glycerin but not active ingredient) vs Kinky Curly Leave in (no glycerin).

Hey Andrea, I have been loving Kinky curly for the dry Dutch climate. I think you may like it too!

Do you mean in the crown area of your hair or the actual skin of your scalp?
Darin Mathi
