  • Arata Hair Products Review – Shampoo, Conditioner, Hair Gel, Hair Cream

Arata released these products in India shortly after I moved to the Netherlands. I had been wanting to try them and finally did 🙂 Arata sent me the gel and cream. But I also wanted to try the shampoo and conditioner, so I purchased them myself.

Reetha/Soapnut is a fruit used as a cleanser for centuries especially in India. It consists of 2 mild cleansers.

CG Friendly: Yes
Performance:
– Extremely drying, maybe more so than sulphate shampoos. I don’t know why, because the ingredients look quite good.
– Made my hair straw like.
Arata shampoo was a total miss for me. Would not recommend it. I finished it off as a body wash.

  • Glycerin – Humectant
  • Guar Hydroxytrimmonium chloride – Couldn’t find any information about this ingredient. Could it be misspelt?
  • Glyceryl Caprylate – Emollient

Ingredients after the first 5 to 8 ingredients are in negligible amounts and can be ignored if you are not trying to avoid any ingredient in particular – Read the Ingredients List, Not the Product Claims. I don’t fancy the ingredients list at all. It is also missing an important ingredient – a cationic surfactant. If you read this post Ingredients to Look for in a Conditioner, you would know that a cationic surfactant is essential to calm down frizz and help detangle hair or give the desirable “slip” that we all like in conditioners.

CG Friendly: Yes
Performance:
– It has zero slip.
– Detangling was a nightmare. It was impossible to detangle.
– Tangles & dryness were unaffected even after letting the conditioner sit on my hair for some time.
Arata conditioner was a big miss for me. I just rinsed it out and used another conditioner.

I love such small ingredients lists of about 5-8 ingredients 🙂 Quite a good list for a gel, though it doesn’t contain any added polymers – Ingredients to Look for in a Hair Gel

CG Friendly: Yes
Performance:
+ The benefits of homemade flaxseed gel in the convenience of a tube! I absolutely enjoyed using it. And it smells of roses!
+ Much better texture than the oh-so-slippery homemade FSG. Slippery, nevertheless 🙂 I always recommend raking in FSG owing to its texture, but you can scrunch this gel in!
+ Gives a beautiful cast
+ Gives me soft, lightweight, voluminous, bouncy curls
+ Gives medium hold
– Would have liked a bit more hold

I absolutely enjoy using this gel, and would easily recommend it. This is the star of their line 🙂

Arata Hair Cream

Arata Hair Cream

Description by Arata: Packed with the natural goodness of organic flaxseed and olive extracts, Arata Zero Chemical Hair Cream infuses your hair with 100% nature-derived ingredients that nourish and strengthen the scalp while sculpting your hair.

Price: Around 500 INR. You can buy it here.

Ingredient Analysis:

Full List – Organic Flax Seed Extract, Coco Glyceride, Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Propanediol, Hydrogenated Olive Oil, Olive Oil, Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, Sorbitan Olivate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glyceryl Undecylenate.

  • Organic Flax Seed Extract
  • Coco Glyceride – Emollient
  • Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate – Emollient
  • Glyceryl Stearate- Emollient
  • Stearyl Alcohol- Emollient
  • Propanediol – Emollient
  • Hydrogenated Olive Oil
  • Olive Oil

Ingredients after the first 5 to 8 ingredients are in negligible amounts and can be ignored if you are not trying to avoid any ingredient in particular – Read the Ingredients List, Not the Product Claims. I quite love the list – Flaxseed gel with added emollients. Would have liked a cationic surfactant too, for some frizz taming.

CG Friendly: Yes
Performance:
+ Provides lightweight moisture
+ Gave bouncy, ringlet-y, tight spirals
+ Worked well even in humid weather when followed up with the gel
– The texture is quite weird because of the flax seed extract in it. It doesn’t melt when you rub it between your palms and doesn’t get absorbed easily into your hair. So like with homemade flaxseed gel, I recommend raking this cream into your hair(instead of scrunching it in) till it gets absorbed. It may take a bit more time than usual.

Arata cream is an amazing lightweight cream that can be used by fine or wavy hair too.

Have you tried Arata products? How do you like them?

Blog Comments

I bought the Arata hair cream and gel recently. The gel is quite decent. But like you said, I would have liked a better hold. I hated the hair cream though. I hated the texture. I am far more used to hair creams that have a creamy texture. This one was like a jelly. When I tried to apply it after rubbing it between my palms, it does not melt in and it leaves chunks of hair cream in my hair. It feels very drying on my hair. Totally hated it

Yes, that’s due to the FSG in it 🙂

Hello mam!!
The arata hair cream and gel worked well for me. I have a doubt with regard to its application though. So after I use a conditioner on my hair, curl clumping happens. I observe curls getting formed pretty well. So if I rake in my hair cream, won’t it disturb the curl formation and ruin it? I currently use the praying hand technique…would it be fine??

Which shampoo would you recommend to use along with re equil conditioners?

Raking on dripping wet hair will ensure the clumps come back to some extent. Nevertheless, if you are able to apply this weirdly textured cream using praying hands very well, then you’ve hit jackpot 😀 https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/plum-shampoo-conditioner-and-hair-mask-review/ is my current favourite shampoo

I was surprised to read the shampoo and conditioner review 😅 I liked both , the conditioner especially.. My tangles just melted off and I found it very slippery, so much more than other Indian conditioners in fact. Guess it depends from hair to hair? Agree with you on the gel.. Though it has mild hold, i love it’s texture.

Oh!! Glad to hear that they work for you, Praveena 🙂

hey…. its really nice product , you explain about this hair shampoo and conditioners in your review very well.love to read your blog

Thanks Again

Hi Anjana. I am new to this method totally. I have a medium length hair. Just started with a clarifying shampoo and Tresemme Naturals conditioner. Used the Arata hair cream as leave in. The Curls were a bit more defined than everyday but the hold was only for a few hrs. The hair was back to normal frizzy by night. Where have I gone wrong?

Hold is given by gels. Please incorporate a gel. You can check this for recommendations https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/beginner-friendly-simple-curly-hair-starter-kit/

Hello mam,
The morning after the shower day, my hair is very defined but by evening I lose definition and also my hair turns frizzy. I am currently using arata hair gel. It’s a great gel but I am not sure about the hold. I need gels that give a great hold. I am currently using arata hair cream. It’s my second tub. However I observed a slight difference with regard to its smell. It seems to have a strong smell somewhat like chlorine. I dont remember it smelling that way while using my first tub. Is this normal? And please suggest a hair gel that gives strong hold

Check this https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/loreal-homme-strong-hold-gel-6-review/
The chlorine smell doesn’t sound normal Priyanka.

Thank you for the reply mam! What would you suggest I do with the cream? Do I dispose it off? And the only issue I had with the cream was that it barely helped with the frizz. Can you please suggest a particular cream that goes well with the gel you suggested? Thank you mam

Ya that would be best. Or you could write to Arata customer care asking if this is normal.

Hi,

If I’m looking for gels under 500 which one should i buy Arata Hair Gel OR Set Wet Cool Hold Hair Gel ?
I read your reviews on Arata Hair Gel, but couldn’t find review on Set Wet Cool Hold Hair Gel.

I’d say Arata gel, Tee

Hello Anjana,

I want to know if the arata gel and cream are protein free or not?

Hi Natasha, Yes they are both protein free

Thank you 😊

Hey anjana
I wanted to know if you have tried the Giovanni range of products? If yes,did you liked it?
And there are a number of positive reviews for Tony & guy smooth definition shampoo for frizzy hair, what do you think shall I purchase it.
I want to invest in a good shampoo but have a budget of 1k and Camille shampoo & other in your fav. shampoo are a bit costly.
And I absolutely love the bababssu requil conditioner my hair bas never this much better. Thanks to youu!! ♥️♥️

Hi Anjana, thankyouu for the lovely blog.
I had a query. My hair are fine and thin. I have used ustraa cream but it weighed my hair down.
I am considering using arata cream and gel combination.
Is it light weight and will suit my fine curly hair?

The gel will suit you, not sure of the cream. You can skip a cream if your hair is really thin & fine. Or use a lightweight leave in like https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/as-i-am-leave-conditioner-review/

New to CGM have 2b to 3a type which gel or cream you would prefer
TIA

Please review the new range of the arata shampoos
