ACV has been popular for a long time in the curly community for being able to remove product buildup and restoring the pH balance of the scalp and hair.
- Some advocate that it lets the cuticles lie flat, while others say that surface roughness of hair appears to be quite similar at pH3 (ACV) and pH7 (water).
- ACV is antifungal and antibacterial and so it may help if your dandruff is as a result of a fungal infection.
- Some also say that it helps remove hard water deposits from hair.
There are no solid proofs for these so I guess we just need to experiment with our own hair and see if or not it works đ
How to use ACV for hair
- Mix 1 tablespoon (15 ml) vinegar in 1 cup of (250 ml) water
- Use it to rinse hair after shampoo or instead of shampoo
- Condition and style as usual
- Do this once a month
The raw, organic and unfiltered form with the âmotherâ (Mother of vinegar is composed of cellulose and acetic acid bacteria and is used to produce vinegar) is preferred over the clear vinegar because the enzymes and minerals in the âmotherâ maybe good for hair.
Here are some good ACV brands in India:
- WOW Raw Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother of Vinegar, Raw, Unfiltered, Unpasteurized
- Nourish Vitals Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother Vinegar, Raw, Unfiltered, Unpasteurized
- St. Botanica Natural Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother Vinegar
- True Elements Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother of Vinegar
- Bragg Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar – The most popular one in the curly community
- The one I currently have is a clear vinegar American Garden Apple Cider Vinegar
Do you use ACV rinse in your curly hair routine?
