You spent 2000 bucks on that lovely perfume bottle only to come home and realize that the smell lasts only for one or two hours. Is the perfume quality’s poor? Is it a counterfeit product? Most likely not.
So what can you do? Here are some tips to smell good and make perfume last all day
1.Know your product.
Body sprays, perfumes are all different. The descending order of concentration in which they contain fragrance oils is Eau de parfum (EDP) > Eau de toilette (EDT) > Body Mists/Sprays. This is why a small bottle of EDP is costlier than a big bottle of body mist. Mists as the name suggests are watery.
2.Your skin should be moist.
Your skin cells and pores are permeable when they are moist and the fragrance can sink into them. Moisture dissolves and retains scent molecules. Right after a shower is the best time to splash fragrance on. For other times, use a good quality moisturizer liberally.
3.Layer multiple fragrant products.
You have seen The body shop, Victoria’s secret and many such brands carrying multiple products of the same fragrance line. Wash with the shower gel/cream, apply the body butter/lotion, spray the body mist liberally all over your body – all this in the shower. After dressing, apply the EDT or EDP.
4.Spray on body parts that give off heat.
Body heat will slowly evaporate the perfume into air. Wrist, inner elbow, back of knee, chest, a little below your armpit(so as to not affect your deodorant), behind ears, neck (back and front), junction between the hair and the back of the neck are perfect areas.
5.Spray fragrances onto your lower body.
Fragrance molecules are light and so if you spray fragrances onto your lower body (knees, waist, tummy, legs), they will evaporate and rise up.
6.Do not rub the fragrance after spritzing.
You are not rubbing it into the deep layers of your skin. Instead the light and tiny fragrant molecules will break.
7.Do not waste product by spraying into air and walking into the cloud.
Walking into a cloud of fragrance is best avoided as more than half of the product is lost into air (read the price label on the bottle again :P).
8.Lightly spray your wallet, handbag and umbrella.
Use your signature fragrance to give them all a mild lingering smell. Do not spray on leather. Spray on the inside fabric or spray a cotton ball with the perfume and drop it inside.
9.Store your fragrances in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
It is mostly alcohol after all.
