As much as I love leaving my curls loose and free flowing (which is the best way to show the beauty of your curls according to me :)), once in a while I like to put them up in a ponytail or a braid. Especially while travelling, a bun is my go to hairstyle. I know many of you have been asking this for a really long time. So here it is finally. 11 easy everyday hairstyles for curly hair (I am too lazy to do complex braids and twists :D). All these hairstyles are suitable for both short and long curly hair.
1. No style β Loose curly hair with bangs in the front.
As you can see, not doing anything makes me look like a potato :P.
a. Bring your bangs to one end (I have chosen the left side here)
b. Bring some of your longer hair from behind your bangs to the left side. The ends of the longer hair on the left side gives a voluminous look
2. Quarter pony
a. Take your bangs to the back of your head
b. Still touching your scalp, push it a little forward on your head to create volume
c. Secure with a tiny claw clip or bobby pins
3. Messy pony
a. Place your thumbs on the back of your head near the neck
b. Pull the hair up like you are drawing a 2 brackets with your thumbs like this β (Β Β )
c. Secure it at a height you like with a really strong claw clip (if you use a loose clip, the clip will slide down)
4. High and low ponies
No explanation required π W have been doing these from time immemorial :p
5. Side braid
a. Bring all your hair to one side
b. Do a braid till the very end of your hair leaving just about 1 or 2 cms to tie it
c. Secure with a rubber band
6. Messy side braid
a. Do the above side braid
b. Pull your braid apart slightly from here and there to increase the flatness of your braid and make it look messy
7. Bun
a. Gather your hair into a pony tail
b. Wring it like you wring clothes and twist it into a spiral as you go
c. Secure with a chopstick or rubber band
The height of the pony will determine the height of your bun
8. Half bun (hun)
You could do this 2 ways –
1)
a. Gather half of your hair into a pony tail
b. Wring it and twist it into a spiral as you go
c. Secure with a chopstick or rubber band
2)
a. Gather half of your hair into a pony tail
b. Use a rubber band to secure it once
c. In the 2nd round of the rubber band, donβt pull out the hair wholly. Leave it when it almost reaches then end of the half pony.
The height of the half pony will determine the height of your hun
9. Side bun
a. Bring all your hair to one side
b. Wring it like you wring clothes and twist it into a low spiral as you go
c. Secure with a rubber band
10. Twisty
a. Take a little section of your hair in the front
b. Twist it and secure it at the back of your head with a bobby pin
c. Repeat on the other side
11. Braidy
a. Take a little section of your hair in the front
b. Braid it and secure with a rubber band
Another thing I do is combine 2 or more of the above styles to form another hairstyle. For e.g. hun + side braid, quarter pony + pony, twisty + side bun and so on. You could try various permutations and combinations with these π

These are some cute and beautiful hairstyles…. Thanks for sharing Anjana π I have read somewhere in your post (don’t recalling is it on IMBB or here π ) that sometime you straighten your bangs …. So what would you advice to straight the bangs or just loose them like this ?? I am confused, and having hard time manage my hair bangs :headbang:

Sheetal, now I have completely stopped straightening my bangs. As you can see I wear them curly all the time now. The 1st hairstyle shows you how you can position your curly bangs. Just make sure they are long enough or else they will just sit there not obeying you!

I just had a total binge over your blog. It is SO refreshing to read a blog about curly hair and it is so informative. I have curly hair and I’m always looking for new products and tips to tame the mane. I just read your top products and think I’m going to get some L’oriel products.
Keep doing what you’re doing x

Super cute hairstyles, Anjana π π I really loved the names, Hun, Twisty and Braidy π :)One question, would a layer haircut make my limp hair look limper especially at the ends??
Anjana
May 6, 2016 at 5:50 pm
Thanks Vidya π Long layers will thin down your hair. So you should go for short layers (layers that are close to each other).

Hey Anjana,
Your bangs are on point.where did you get this haircut done.I lie somewhere between 2B and 2C type, will bangs go with my curl type!(not to forget they are coarse in texture, but I load them with moisture to keep them frizz free and end up with oily/limp waves)

Kavana, here – My curly haircut at BBlunt Bangalore
People with even 3b hair go for bangs π So give it a try! Remember moisture is not oils – Difference between Moisturizing and Sealing (Oiling)

hey if we make a tight bun every day something what we call ambada will that spoil my curls,.??
Anjana
August 6, 2018 at 3:20 pm
Spoil in the sense the curls won’t be bouncy, they will lose shape till your next wash day

It so happens that after braiding the hair or putting it in a bun, I tend to lose my curl definition. What should I do?
Anjana
October 17, 2018 at 2:32 pm
There’s no rescuing other than washing π Manipulative hairstyles modify curls because that’s the nature of curly hair – they take shape easily

Hi Anjana! I have low porosity hair. How often you recommend to make a protein treatment? Do you think is okay to use a mouse that have shea butter from cantu( is because I read that low porosity shouldn’t have shea butter)
Anjana
October 22, 2020 at 2:59 pm
Hi Avril, that depends on many things, not just porosity. This would be a good guide – https://www.curlsandbeautydiary.com/protein-helps-curls-protein-sensitivity/
And about the mousse, we can’t generalise like that. Give it a try and see π

Hi Anjana,
I have curly hair that NEVER does what I want it to.
On the rare occasion I try to style it, it comes out looking terrible.
When I do the squish to condish method, my hair does not clump.
Help!
