Have you come across a situation where a colour looks great on someone, be it a lipstick or a dress, but it doesn’t look that great on you even though you both have the same skin colour? Or a situation where a shade of lipstick made your face come alive, but another one that’s almost the same shade made you look washed-out?
Skin’s surface tone or skin colour is literally the color of your skin (fair, medium, brown, dark). Your skin’s undertone is the color underneath the surface. 2 people can have the same skin color, but a different undertone.
The undertones are:-
- Cool (pink, red or bluish undertones)
- Warm (yellow, peachy, golden undertones)
- Neutral (a mix of warm and cool undertones)
So how do we find out our undertone? Answer these questions.
1) Check Your Veins – Are they blue or green?
If they look blue, you have cool undertones. If they look green, you are warm.
2) Do you look better in silver or gold jewelry? (Not the one you like more, but the one that suits you more.)
Cool undertones look better in silver and platinum metals, and warm-toned women look better in gold.
3) When you are out in the sun, does your skin tan and turn brown or does it burn and turn pink?
If you are in the former category, you are warm-toned, while cool tones tend to burn.
If you have mixed answers, you are a neutral undertone and most colours will suit you!
Here’s a chart of what colours suit you best, the colours that you should buy for your makeup, clothes and accessories:
I am warm toned. How about you?
