There are professional ways to apply lipstick to make it last longer – with primer, lip liner and everything. That is just too much for me to go through *lazy me*.
Here are 5 easy steps to apply lipstick to make it last longer.
-
Exfoliate or scrub your lips.
Dry, cracked and chapped lips don’t let lipsticks stay. In addition to a bad canvas to paint your lip color on, dry cracked lips become more visible after you have applied colour. Use a lip scrub to gently scrub of dead cells.
-
Apply lip balm.
If your lips aren’t moisturized, they will look bad minutes after you have applied a lip color. Apply a thin coating of a light lip balm and wait for 5 minutes for them to be absorbed. This step is also very important if you are applying matte lipsticks because they don’t have any moisturizing agents.
-
Apply your lipstick.
-
Use a tissue.
Press a tissue paper in between your lips as if you are biting it. This will remove excess lipstick and will help build a long lasting layer of lipstick underneath.
-
Apply the lipstick again.

- Maybelline Super Stay 14HR Lipstick in Non Stop Red
Some other tips:
- Keep in mind that the creamier, glossier & sheerer the lip color, the lower its longevity. Choose matte over creamy, lipstick over gloss and bright & pigmented shades over sheer colors.
- After you’ve eaten something just blot your lips with a tissue for any excess grease, food crumbs or oil that can dissolve the pigments in the lipstick.
